The warranty does not cover the ratchets and any other moving mechanism tools.

This is apparently true but as neither the display, box, assistant or receipt says the warranty is limited in this way I would imagine if you threatened trading standards they would back down and replace a faulty ratchet. Might have to involve a "scene" though.

Re Trading Standards - I saw a shop that looked fake online selling electrical goods (which was discussed here). I checked their address and it did not exist and they only took something untraceable for payment (like e-gold or something).

I called the police and told them of the scam - who told me to call Trading Standards. When I called the local trading standards for the area - they said 'Yeah - it seems fake - so is not at the address it claims. We can only investigate things from our area - and clearly its not actually here.

Good luck with trading standards.

well i work at halfords and there is POS that clearly states that the lifetime guarantee does not cover ratchets and moving mechanism parts. Also, even though it has "halfords proffesional" stamped on the tools, a receipt is required if you want to exchange. I think this is due to some people buying tools, be them fine or broken, from carboots/markets etc. then going into halfords and swapping them over.

Well when I bought my set no-one mentioned that the "lifetime warranty" as printed on the box, which I have sensibly saved ;-), is actually limited, I only found that out by reading on a forum. I probably won't ever bother to argue it but if it went to law they would undoubtedly lose. Of course it wouldn't go that far because they would just settle and change the packaging to make it clearer.
