I've had my socket set a couple of years and its been fine for my requirements, servicing my own cars, even used it to put the bunk beds up for the kids because the tools they supply you with were bloody awful...

Cheers richp, went last weekend but unfortunately it was a blank, I've got my gear all sorted for next session, just need to find some time :-)

Just remember 1/4 drive is less durable than 3/8 or 1/2.
#8
word of caution, halfords warranty means nothing they do not replace as promised.
#9
they dont replace any ratchets or moving parts but if you damage any sockets they will replace.
just make sure you keep your reciept.

They replaced without question when I broke a socket, didn't need a receipt or anything. The only case I've heard of them not replacing was a friend who had a broken ratchet mechanism. This isn't covered by their lifetime warranty.

Got one myself and its well worth the money all day long!

Not really, it's perfectly adequate for the duties it's designed for. If used properly it's just as durable as any other drive size.

The professional range tools are the only thing I would generally buy from Halfords. They are honestly very good, and the lifetime guarantee is great (Every tool company has the same policies on lifetime guarantees - they do not include ratchets or moving parts)

I picked up their 150 piece big set for about £95 last time they were on sale - really good. Keep your receipts though!

Do what I do. Scan your receipt then email it to yourself using Gmail. Just use the vendors name in the subject header and should you need it in years to come just use Gmail's search function and Voila! :)

Is the ratchet covered by your lifetime warranty

Staff Answer
A:
Solid parts and tools are covered by the lifetime guarantee. Moving parts and mechanisms are not covered by the guarantee.
If there is a manufacturing fault or weakness that causes the tool to fail we will replace it. Natural wear and tear on moving parts such as the ratchet mechanism would not be covered.

Advanced Professional was the name they changed the Professional range to when they changed the warranty details (i.e. when they insisted on seeing receipts for warranty replacements). Both have lifetime warranty.

Why do you need a receipt for a lifetime warrentied item?

Because you might have nicked it?

anyone know a trade card works against this?

Great kit, have had mine for several years and use them regularly, small enough to keep in the car as well!
#32
I have this set, lasted 2 jobs and the ratchet broke, they did not replace it as it does not have a lifetime warranty, disappoint as I no longer have the receipt even though they have HALFORDS stamped all over it!

You should maybe be using a breaker bar then.. I've given my ratchet some stick and its been fine but if I ever need to put some real leverage on I don't use the ratchet..

Ratchet repair kits are £5, and the ratchet mechanism is rarely covered by any manufacturer, precisely because they can easily be abused. As stated above, if you're putting enough torque through a ratchet to even come close to damaging it you should be using a breaker bar instead.

Had my set a few weeks and noticed problem with ratchet, took it down to my local Halfords yesterday and was given repair kit. Happy enough with service
