I think they're fugly, but good price for 4 new tyres so hot ;-)
#2
They'll no doubt be poor quality metal and corrode quickly lasting nowhere near as long as OE alloys. Not so bad a price with the tyres though for a set of disposables you can rip the tyre off later and take alloy to scrap yard for scrap value.

hot ..........
#4
this deal only the tyers hot and you might be able to sell the alloys for a £20

Or fleabay them, you can normally get 30-50% return after a year and then buy a new set, so not too bad.

How can you go wrong, if you just have bog standard wheels its a big improvement, throw away at this price. I bet they would fit them for you as well FOC if you pushed.

My last set of tyres retailed at £250 a corner I got a deal off a mobile fitter for around £800 fitted for a full set thats just for the rubber !
#7
Bring out the neddy boy racer in you.
#8
For someone on cacky steelys, its a bit of a billy bargain.

The tyres alone would cost this, so if your in for a full re-tread on your car this would be a good choice although how long the tyres last is another matter. You should see at least 10k if you dont punish them

The tyres will probably be nankangs or similar so virtually indestructible (hard compound). Not much cop in the wet though.

That thing is outrageous. And there was me selling a E30 325i because it was too thirsty.

Do you a swap for a '98 swift with some light panel damage if you're interested? :whistling:
#13
No thanks ! Still got 2 years of the service and maintenance package the only thing I pay for is tyres !

Wouldn't like to think about the 1st year depreciation..... I take it you're the second owner?
#15
It was just over a year old when I got it. Originally It was Audi UK mds car hence the spec. I doubt anyone in the UK paid full list for one.

You'll need to inform your insurance company that you have after market alloys. I must have paid £700 extra on my insurance over the years since having mine. Told them i didn't want them insured but said i have no option.
If you fail to declare it your insurance is invalid.
#17
They'll invalidate it for having an air freshener next. So if there's a claim and the people are coming to inspect the car, swap the wheels over and don't include the wheels in any photos of the accidents ;)

Or claim they came with the car and you thought they were standard.
#18
Those 195-50/15 are very close to the size of my GF's car tyres, and the last time I needed to get new tyres for her I got a set of 4 for £100 from National Tyres. The offer was only for a limited range of sizes, but I'm 99% sure these tyres would have been in the offer.

So for those of you who think the deal is good for just the tyres, there are better ways to get tyres.

There is one situation where these alloys could be useful. My car tyres are usually around £100 a corner for 'budget' ones, because its a peculiar size (only an Astra, but the standard alloys need an odd size). If I bought these alloys I could then take advantage of buying cheaper tyres next time round.

Alloys are considered a performance modification by some insurers. Other insurers assume that because you've put alloys on, you're a boy (or girl) racer, and therefore you're a greater risk.

I had a similar time when I fitted Cavalier GSi wheels to my Cavalier GLi, even though they were standard Vauxhall wheels they probably assumed my pathetic car had suddenly become a super fast accident waiting to happen.

£700 bloody hell!! I would switch if I was you, im with bell direct and they said all it needs to be is declared, they didn't add any extra!

Surely your premiums go up because your car is more robbable?

No it is because the sort of people who fit aftermarket alloys have more accidents.:whistling:

That's a rather broad generalisation. Insurance is a funny thing. My car has a lot of non standard features and costs me about £230 FC. I asked for a quote on the same car, a few years younger and completely standard (and worth sod all imho) and was told around £460. Go figure:thinking:

Kinda sums up the way they calculate insurance premiums, really ;-)

Why?
The majority of cheap aftermarket alloy wheels are heavier than their steel equivalent..
#26
Do you need to inform the insurance if you add a baked bean tin to your exhaust, put led's on your car and paint a stripe down the side? Will they increase the insurance because you have a small manhood?

and will suit cars of all sizes

lol :\
#28
15's bah!

I was told by an insurer that the premiums tend to go up to represent the replacement cost of the modified parts. Of course, it will be quite expensive, but people who spend lots of money on cosmetic and performance parts, will find that their car attracts unwanted (or in some cases wanted) attention from the sorts who might think about damaging the car, or attempting to steal it.

I personally steer clear of budget tyres, as it is the last point of contact between me and the road. While I bet they are good tyres in the dry (many are), I would be more weary of their wet (lack of) performance.

I hope nothing else on your car's touching the road - you may have problems :-D

cheap tyres = accident

Well, the tyres are the part that keep you the right way up and the right way around. You'd be mad as a hatter to scrimp on them in my opinion.

And I think some 'modifiers' would have more than just the tyres touching the ground on some cars.
#33
This is "Halfords"...a reputable company for many years...i don't think they would sell inferior goods for one minute.
the make of the tyres are "Kinforest" and they look fine to me...the alloy wheels are fine also...i have just done 70+10mph on the motorway without the mearest suggestion of vibration or wobble.
i'm very pleased with the deal and for under £200...it's a real deal imo.
#34
the tyres are actually made in Guangdong China...so they have to export...they ride bikes !

Rubbish.

They may only sell products that have passed the relevant legislation, but there is huge variation, and some cheap tyres, well maybe safe on paper, are death traps. I'm another who'd rather pay a bit more on quality rubber, from personal experience with cheap rubber

Really?
#37
Quite.

Halfords are "trained" to fit bulbs, speakers and headunits to cars, yet I know dozens of people who've had cars damaged and ruined by some very badly informed staff. Not all staff are silly though - plenty are clued up and know what they are talking about.

With respect to the tyres being quality, well, remember that remoulds are legal too, but nobody would want to have those on their car, would they?
#38
some of you couldn't spot a bargain if it jumped up and bit your big bent nose's off !
my son-in-law has just paid £180 for 4 tyres for his Focus...here we have 4 tyres & 4 alloy wheels for £200 !
personally speaking...these are fine for my needs...i don't do motorway's, i don't do a lot of miles...just local stuff...this offer is good for me and maybe some other HUKD members...that's why i posted it.
those of you slagging off Halfords have a 'chip' obviously...they've been around year's and years...you don't survive in business with bad products and bad service...that's a fact.

When you get a chance, have a look on your tyres for the following info and post it up. I would imagine it would be pretty much the same as in the pic, maybe as slightly higher treadwear index (if it's on there at all).
