When you are on your Halifax Internet Banking next time, remember to click on the Cashback Extras section and opt in to the deals...

The way it works is, when you opt in for a deal and when you use your debit card in the store/online at that opted in retailer you get cashback as detailed on Halifax's website.
(Be aware the cashback is only paid on the first transaction at that retailer after you opt in, with your debit card.)

This month I have cashback deals as below which I have opted in:

10% Morrisons
15% Waitrose
8% Pets At Home
10% Hilton Hotels
15% Gourmet Burger Kitchen
10% In N Out Servicing
12% Shell Petrol/Diesel

There were also others for Hungry House Takeaways, Photo Frames and Waldorf Hotels.

It seems to come and go, as some month's I have rubbish deals and others like this month, I get great ones. I am due to do a big food shop and will now go to Morrison's and might even do one at Waitrose later in the month!

Remember when you are in the shops, there is very little point asking the staff about this deal or quering when the cashback will be paid, as the deal is dealt with directly by Halifax and they pay the cashback based upon your debit card transaction history. The cashback usually takes about 4 weeks to be paid.

Thanks for the info. Just in the middle of switching to the halifax. Can you just check your details and confirm if waitrose is 5% or 15% pls.
#2
Yes definitely 15% at Waitrose...

The deals seems to vary, monthly as about six months ago I had one for Waitrose which just paid me a flat £5 if I spent £30 or more in store.

The offers will be targeted based on spend e.g. someone may have different offers to you

Heat added as is still something for nothing if you have a Halifax account

I've only got waitrose, is there a way to get more? I only ever seem to have one at a time.
#11
Strange, I don't have neither Morrisons nor Waitrose.. but I have Iceland, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Hungry Horse which I never used... Shame, 10% off Morrisons would have been great.
#12
Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realise this was a free service.

The cashback amount and the stores applicable are tailored to your spending. This would explain why people have different cashback.

Just a little note. It says if you return an item you keep the cashback. Not sure if that's after they've given it, as it takes up to a month to receive the cashback.

Heat added. Thanks op.

I didn't realise that this was a free service either. Just had a look and there is nothing available on mine which I would make use of at the moment, but it's worth knowing about for the future. Thanks for the heads-up

Cash back deals are good through Halifax but it is different for each person, between mine, my wifes and our joint account, all 3 receive different cash back offers :-) Hungryhouse offer 12% cashback through quidco and my halifax offers me 15%, so some good savings to be had :-)
#15
different for everyone
#16
Don't you have to have previously shopped at those retailers for Halifax to identify those deals for you?
#17
lucky you on the shell fuel.
#18
You do well. They make me 1 offer approx once every 3 months. I have Argos 8% right now.
#19
I only seem to have 5 holiday/hiotel offers, must be different for everyone

Waitrose is 5% for me
#21
I've only got the Gourmet Burger Kitchen listed on mine. Pales in insignificance compared to Amex.
#22
deals vary from customer to customer, we use morrisons online shopping and the 10% isn't showing in our offers, I wonder why, maybe cause we use that shop lol

seems the shoos u don't use are on offer
#23
I got nothing in mine, just the same Hertz one I got last month. I never get any deals, maybe I need to start using the card a bit more.
#24
Great find, deals do vary for each person. On the website it says:

Cashback Extras is our new service for Online and Mobile Banking current account customers. With it you'll get cashback offers that are based on the places you usually shop.

To earn cashback each offer must be activated online and applies to your next purchase.

Are these offers available on the same account that they pay £5 per month providing you meet the deposit requirement each month?

Its like Tesco and Nectar sending you vouchers for things that you 'usually' buy. My offers are currently:
-Club Med (UK)
-Morrisons (Online Grocery)
-Iceland
-Oliver Bonas
-Handmade Burger Co (UK)
-Vintage Inn (UK)
-Hello Canvas
-Love Holidays (UK)
-The White Company
-Hilton
-Waldorf
-Hungryhouse
-Shell

From those the only places I have ever spent money are Morrisions, Iceland (at least 3 years ago), Handmade Burger Co and Shell.
From the others, Hilton are the only one I've even heard of.

Edit: Also worth noting that Santander have started doing something similar on their 123 credit card (in addition to the standard cashback).

Am afraid it looks like Halifax have classed you as an Iceland rather than a Waitrose shopper.:p

The allocation of retailers is an absolute lottery and is supposed to be based on your spending. I keep getting discounts for hungry house and Windsor's world of shoes and I've never shopped in either of these in my life.

Also I'm pretty sure the cashback is paid on your highest purchase at that retailer before it expires and not your first.

Don't think so, I have offers for places I've never shopped ;)
#31
Shame that it is not available on its credit cards. Only on current accounts.
#32
No Shell deal on my card....shame as their VPower Nitro is the only fuel I use
#33
I'm thinking of opening a Halifax to get the free £5 a month but not using it as my regular bank and just setting the two direct debits - does anyone do this and if so, do you still get any cashback offers? Personally I loathe the Halifax but would gladly get a bit of free cash off them.
#34
Shame no Morrison's for me either. I wonder if their system is clever enough to target new shoppers - I got the cash back extra from Morrison's before so that may be why I don't have it this time.
#35
what does ut mean by
(Be aware the cashback is only paid on the first transaction at that retailer after you opt in, with your debit card.)

Use this card so good news.

Wonder what happens if you've also activated in-store cashback, or clicked through Quidco? Keep meaning to try this with Hungryhouse - I get 20% off through a student discount, there's 12% Quidco, and then Halifax offer 15%. Would it stack I wonder?
