You get what you pay for with hama - their plastic leg clips are pathetically weak and will most likely snap rendering your tripod useless

What do you mean 'which of these'? There is only one Tripod being discussed here.

He means hama tripods in general, as mentioned in the opening post

If you do go for the Hama star 61, it's £1 cheaper at Play.com:

PS. Actually, having looked into this a little more, I reckon the best buy at the moment is probably the Hama Star 63, which is much more substantial than the 75 or the 61. Most places have it for around £15 to £20, but Play are currently selling it for £12.48:

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/15176095/Hama-Star-63-Tripod-166cm/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0&searchstring=tripod&searchtype=ELEC&searchsource=0&urlrefer=search&strefer=ELEC&searchfilters=s{tripod}+c{321}+

...think I'm going to get one myself at that price.

Andy Kens comment is spot on the 63 is the most rigid. Well made I've had one for a few years there are videos on youtube. e.g.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QpzYitGeuA

To stabilise add a weight to the base hook. The quick release is also useful and the case is great.

I have the 62...its great

Mine was a 61, I wouldn't recommend that particular model, maybe it was just that one which suffered from flimsy leg clip hinges.

Cheaper on Play.com http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/-/8881450/-/Product.html?source=9593&_$ja=tsid:11853|prd:78888

So why is this hot?

Waste of time with a product like this, useless. If you want a cheap tripod have a look at red snappers. This is just throwing money away.
#17
these aren't from amazon direct but just a third party seller advertising via amazon.

If looking to buy a few items mymemory have most hama tripods and other items on 3 for 2.

Can anyone recommend very light tripod for my Canon 450D with kit lens? I previously bought two tripods from 7 Days shop and they are very heavy. I ended up leaving them at home and they are now gathering dust.

By the way, the price is now £8.89 not £8.55 anymore.

What tripods did you buy, full moon?

I'm struggling to compare all the various Hama tripods. I want a really lightweight one, too. Is the '63' as lightweight as the others?

I bought 7 days shop brand ones. The height and stability is ok but just not practical to carry arround.

With tripods you alway get what you pay for, but at £8.55 no harm in trying it, you can always bin it if its pants.

£14.97 at Tesco Direct and qualifies for free delivery to stores too if anyones interested.
#26
why do play change prices like that?
#27
shame on play

I bought this model about 2 months ago at a slightly lesser price and haven't had any issues with it.
Sure it isn't made from titanium and it may well break in time, lots of things do but for me a novice re tripods and wanting a starter one it has sufficed.

I use it with my Fujifilm S5700 and it can handle the weight of this. The 75 is just the right size to fit in my record bag aswell so easy to travel with.

The reviews on Amazon speak for themselves. Easily recommended for this price, especially as a piece of starter kit.

hama star 63 BACK at Play for £12.48 delivered :)

finally went for it.. received it quickly...this is exactly what I want. Light (extremely important), Portable and durable. Obviously not designed to use with heavy SLR and big camcorder but for my Canon 450D, it is a absolute godsend.

I bought HAMA 75. 400D should be ok. but don't use it in windy condition. Your camera will be gone with the wind.
