They state:
I also worry about the next few lines:
A: It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that all loads are securely tied-down. Items of equipment that may induce 'lifting forces' when travelling at speed such as boards or kayaks should also be secured to the front and rear of the vehicle.
Q: Is there a danger of any water ingress in wet conditions?
A: We provide rain contingency guidelines within the instruction leaflet.
Q: Does the internal fitting strap impede the operation of airbags?
A: Only on vehicles fitted with curtain airbags.
There's a small review here http://playak.com/article.php?sid=1279 from some people that have used one. I didn't like the look of that DENT IN THE ROOF!... whether it popped out or not!!!
I wouldn't use this due to:
1. The load bearing down on my car roof and possibly denting it! (definitely denting it looking at the review above).
2. The load sliding all over the roof and possibly coming off!
Each Handirack (as you are supplied with 2) has 2 inflatable chambers and are separated by a strip that has multiple metal rings down it (which is where the bungies connect to).
The first time you fit it, it will take a long while (thread through car / tighten / shut doors / inflate / tighten etc). But eventually you get alot quicker putting it on / off. after a few times When you do inflate / tie it on, it wont move.
The thing 'can' let rain into the car (straps putting pressure on door rubber seals). I've only experienced this once and it was a very small dribble (maybe I didn't put it on right?). They recommend not leaving it on the car after journeys, so get used to taking it off and putting it back on. Remember you will get quicker doing this with practice.
Concerning the roof dent. If you put a very heavy item on this, then you could have roof dent (which should pop out) but I wouldn't trust it with very heavy items. I've had a pushchair and travel cot on mine (together) and it was fine.
Overall, I would give it 8/10. Cheap alternative to a roof rack and if you don't get on with it, then Ebay it. Personally one of the best things I ever bought (Even my other half was impressed!!).
