Seems to be a reasonable price for a well-specced monitor. This Hanns-G HX191DP 19" LCD TFT Monitor is £116.04 delivered from Tecno when you use the voucher code below. Only thing I would look at is the brightness - is 300 cd/m² considered low? Any opinions would be great... I'm thinking of getting this one myself for the office :)

Reliable brand and nice spec too :) Thanks for the pointer Emma ;-)

Cheers Ray. What's your opinion on the 300 brightness ratio? Is that a bit low?
#4
I think it's okay, also the response time is very good and the contrast ratio too.

There's a review on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hanns-HX191DP-SXGA-LCD-Monitor/dp/B000I0RLD6

Eight people agree with it 5*****'s by the way.

Thanks for the review, very helpful. I've just noticed a £9 surcharge to Northern Ireland, so it makes this retailer slightly less appealing to me now. Still a good deal for those of you on the mainland though!
#6
Ouch, those surcharges are nasty for you all.

I just looked at my post above and thought I'd mentioned a swear word :giggle:

LOL that's funny! I remember you wrote another like that recently, and I had to read it twice to make sure I didn't have to edit you!!

You can do what ODonnyBoy suggests and connect it to your PC to watch TV, but it does not have a built in TV tuner to receive broadcasts, if that what you meant.

tis a good price, i got mine from amazon before xmas for £119 (£128 now??) it works well and the internal speakers were an added bonus when it arrived.

I wouldn't like to comment about things like "screen lag" as i dont use the PC for gaming (thats what the PS2 and 360 are for!!), but i can say that for shopping and forumming its top notch!!

Does anyone know if LCD monitors experience problems with display settings outside their recommended resolution? Last time I used one at work, if you used a resolution setting that was not native, it was a little blury.
Thanks because I think I am going to upgrade from CRT but need to be sure.

All tft screens look best at their proper native resolution. Unlike CRT's they are not as adjustable. Best to get one that does the resolution you need, high res or low res, though none go to 800x600.

I have the Hannsg widescreen version, and if you do a higher resolution, it just makes the desktop bigger, and you can scroll around by using the mouse to move the whole desktop around. So although its a 1440x900 native, if i set it to 1600x1200, all the text is the same size as normal, but the desktop goes off the edge, but accessable by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen.

300cds is plenty of brightness, and you will probably have to turn the brightness down.

Looks like a good deal to me too... a good way to spend any left over Christmas money and get rid of the power-hungry, radiation-emitting CRT I have at home - THANKS

Stretch your budget a little and consider this one

I've been looking for a 19" monitor with decent response time to use for PC and Xbox £60 - given you have a 360 do you know whether this monitor can be used to connect to both the PC and Xbox at the same time? I've asked a shop and they said the DVI coonection is needed and then a cable to convert etc. but got very confused so any info will be gratefully received before I commit to purchase.

DVI cables tend to be cheaper on ebay..maybe a member can PM you with advice or know of a online retailer that sells at reasonable prices inc delivery.
#21
I have one of these at home and it is very good. All I would say is check your cable, it only comes with an analog 15pin connector and it is only DVI-D, which means you need to make sure the DVI lead you get is DVI-D and NOT DVI-I

I use the widescreen version mentioned in currychops post, and i use it with both my 360 and PC. I bought a DVI cable off ebay for about £5 to connect my PC up - do a search for Dell DVI and you should find one dead cheap - and i then i bought a 3rd party xbox360 VGA cable from HMV for about £14. Obviously you cant have both connected at once, but i just leave the 360 VGA cable plugged (screwed) in the VGA port on the monitor (its a ****** to keep plugging back in, screwing up etc) and when i want to connect my 360, i just pull the DVI cable out of the back of my PC, plug my 360 in and away i go!

I bought and used one for a few hours, and it passed my tests of no real lag. It had some but that was some intense gaming scenes. I could not really see a difference between my 8ms TFT and this 5ms. Brightness is more than enough.

A true test is to see how white is white, and how black is black?

Tilting feature is great on this, a real bonus I found.

I have just bought this TFT monitor after spending hours shopping around! Ebuyer and Tecno were cheapest for this model. If you use tecno5 code which gives 5% off all products it ends up priced at £108.99. Alternatively if you do it through ebuyer and use google checkout it will come out at the same price. Hope this helps someone! All other websites such as oyyy, kikatec, shopmagenta, dabs etc were higher in price.
