Be careful when buying widescreen monitors; consider if you're happy losing out on some vertical screen space to gain horizontal space.

This monitor is only 1440 x 900 resolution. When compared to a standard 4:3 19" TFT at 1280x1024, you're actually losing out on 10% of the vertical screen space. The HP monitor everyone is trying to buy a few posts below is 1680x1050 which gives you more screen space than a standard 4:3. Consider how much scrolling of web pages, documents, spreadsheets etc you'll be doing and if it's worth losing out on that extra vertical space.

I bought one of these at Xmas for £129.
Worth every penny. Great monitor have used others at higher prices and they don't compare.
I find the vertical space given up is more than ofset by the horizontal extra space ie bookmarks in firefox can be open with no loss of space.
Check whether your graphics card supports the widescreen format first though.

Does anyone know if this monitor would be suitable for using with CCTV cameras connected up to a Dedicated Micro DVR hard drive recorder?

Would the connection from the back of the monitor be suitable for the DVR is really the answer I am after?

Thanks in Advance
Much Appreciated :)

The monitor has both VGA and DVI inputs... so as long as the DVR outputs using those, then yes. I suspect it has coaxial or similar outputs though...

I have had one for about 4 months, and can confirm it is a superb monitor.

Comes with a driver inf file to enable graphics to change to 1440x900, so no one should have problems in this area.

cheaper here again.

just bought one from bluebat whenit was £108inc but seems to be much more expensive now. there was a few places offering it for around £108 if you look.

You do lose some size on vertical but gain so much more on the horizontal great monitor well worth the money. It is 5ms refresh.

Thanks for your help :) could you recommend a 17 or 19 inch flat panel monitor with coaxial output?

I purchased one of these just over a month ago, when it was £139 then it went down to £123 within 30 days. So I phoned Amazon they refunded me the difference and then it went down to what it is now £118.49 so again I phoned and again got the difference from £123.

Thats the good thing with Amazon if the price drops within 30 days you will be refunded the difference, even if the price drops more than once.

The full spec from HannsG can be found here

And a larger picture here

The Hanns site says that it is actually 5ms! Great

Response time, brightness and contrast of this screen is very good - as is the sharpness of the images. The backlight is pretty even too - not perfect but better than many others I have seen. The big problem with them is the shadow blocking and bloated colours though - very difficult for photographic work but great for gaming etc where larger than life colours are probably no bad thing. I got mine for £105 from Amazon a while back and am happy for the money. I have found a good compromise on the picture but I just dont think it is capable of what I really want so I will likely replace at some point.

i brought this monitor for xmas and i think it is one of the best monitors i have seen for the price !!! get out there and buy one !!! :-D :-D

Yes its absolutely perfect for both, i have my PC connected via DVI and xbox via VGA. It only takes three button pushes to switch it between the DVI and VGA inputs, so its not that much hassle at all with unplugging cables etc. Buy one, you wont be disappointed

Excellent. really apprecaite that straightforward reply. I'll get one ordered and finally please the Mrs by moving my xbox out of the lounge.......
#27
believe me, it saves a lot of arguments :giggle: The way i switch the inputs as well is turn the power off, turn it back on and it'll say on the screen '2 inputs available, VGA and DVI' and you just need to push right or left. simple as that

now just £111.62 delivered !!!

Typical 19" WS LCD: 1400x900 = 1,296,000 pixels
Typical 19" FS LCD: 1280x1024 = 1,310,720 pixels

= 14,720 pixels lost going for widescreen
10% of 1,310,720 pixels = 131,072 pixels, how do you lose 10% again? lol

Just over 1% is more realistic.

Fairy muff, teach me to miss a deal :)
#34
well this is the cheapest this monitor has been since amazon were 'giving' them away for £105 last year, so you got in there at the right time ;-)

Just 7 away from 2,000 posts now schizoboy!!
#35
Yer thats the main reason I grabbed this now, rushing via Nectar sight like mad in case it went away etc.

I was gutted I missed the £105 offering last year.

two HannsG 19" monitors there!
HANNS.G 19" LCD HC194D 1024x1024 resolution for £119.99 and
Hanns G 19"LCD Silver/Black DVI MM for £111.62 ?

any advantage of spending extra £8 at all - sadly I am not technically minded but expect my kids will want the one for better display of there games!
Thanks for advice
#37
for games, i would go with the widescreen one for £111. The other one is a non-widescreen 19''er ;-)

Welcome to HotUKDeals!!
#38
thanks so much! looks like an excellent buy...
#39
Price still hasn't changed, I'm amazed they still have them in stock.

Got this monitor two weeks ago (yeah I know, I should keep up with activity on this forum :whistling: ) and am very pleased with it. Great picture with DVDs and movie streaming looks pretty good as well :) Currently £134 from Amazon. Glad I ordered it when it was £112 (or thereabouts for those folks on here who like prices correct to several decimal places  )
