These are cheap for a solid set of scales. They are not budget ones but for the serious cook, they are an excellent price so why voted cold?
Are they cheaper elsewhere?

Perhaps theyre being voted cold because in a normal domestic kitchen you would rarely, if at all need to weigh up to 5kg. The graduations up to 1kg are too close together.

The graduations are in 10g, not 25g like the cheaper ones. So 100 graduations upto a kilo not 40. Better accuracy and quality build.
I think you will find that all scales go upto 5Kg and this is no different. My scales certainly go upto 5Kg.
See one of the other scales below from Argos, 5Kg scales :p

I picked this up this morning along with the body fat bathroom scales deal I posted elsewhere.
These are a quality build. As for the comment about graduations, cheaper scales are per ounce, these are per 10g so are more accurate when you get to things like 100g. The dial has large numbers with major increments clearly marked.
It is also shows imperial for ounces and pounds.
