I cant see why not all eggs are free range now as the price is not much different to that of battery farmed hens

I am an avid supporter of Chickenout campaign etc so free range as much as I can

Someone says this in every thread.

And someone posts a link to this http://www.fwi.co.uk/Articles/2010/10/11/123914/RSPCA-hits-back-at-Viva-Happy-Eggs-39expos23339.htm

My Asda does 15 mixed sized free range eggs for £2.50 I think. My sizing and prices may be mixed up feel free to correct me. Whatever, it's a lot of eggs for little money.

Not enough people unfortunately, People's priorities are usually more on their own pocket than chickens well being. Yet the majority if properly educated would most likely spend a few extra pennies if they knew the true cost of a chicken loosing its beak or living its entire life in a crowded cage for their pathetic saving. Those that wouldn't, well maybe they'd enjoy working at KFC, I hear they mishandle chickens all day long..

Cold, doesn't look so happy to me (_;)

Fair in what way? People who buy free range eggs, like this deal.

What an idiotic comment. Do you think of hens actually being 'happy', rather than not being factory farmed?. Do you think they drive them around the countryside on 4WD vehicles like in the advert and they have fun?

As mentioned, free range eggs in the UK don't really cost much more than factory farmed eggs.

I rescued 20 of these so called 'happy hens' last week from a flock of 7000 that were going to slaughter as they were 72 weeks old and considered useless for producing eggs! They might have been free range in that they were not confined in cages but their conditions and general conditions themselves was horrible - they look really unkempt and bedraggled with loss of feathers. Thankfully this week they are thriving beautifully, have mixed with my other chucks and are producing eggs everyday for me. The company using 'Happy Eggs' as their name should hang their heads in shame!!

Happy eggs or happy hens? My pocket's happy is more important!

At the end of the day this is a good deal for 6 large free range eggs. I disagree with voting cold because of the headlines. Happy eggs is a 'wholesaler'; buying from numerous farms and packaging them up in their wrapping. Agreed, they need to investigate their supply chain and I hope they do for their reputations sake. They rely on the farms (their suppliers) themselves to keep conditions good as per their ethos.

It is VERY likely that these farms don't just supply Happy eggs co. on an exclusive basis, perhaps they supply supermarkets direct as well; who knows? These programmes that run stories on companies never follow up 6 months or a year later ad see if the companies have done said audit and have cleaned things up.

On a side note, who would buy medium eggs when you can get large for the same price?! :D

We understand that the footage from Sky and VIVA! last year may have caused upset. We want to assure you that as soon as we saw the film we suspended the farms in question, and asked the RSPCA Freedom Foods to audit ALL our farms.

We are bitterly disappointed if there is ever a risk we might not live up to our promises. As khirsah said in an earlier comment, VIVA! were criticised for not notifying us immediately about this and for failing to show a realistic perspective of the farm by leaving out core parts of the story - for example around the supervision and care that our vets provide.

We immediately improved all our systems and strive to ensure that we live up to our promises. If you do take a look at the website you will see how hen happiness is genuinely at the heart of what we do and we are working hard to ensure that incidents such as this will never happen again. Free range eggs are the best choice when it comes to hen welfare and we are pleased that there are so many people who care about this as much as we do. http://www.thehappyegg.co.uk
