Harry Potter and the half Blood Prince, the sixth installment in the Harry Potter Saga is captivating, dark, and scary. The world of the wizards has finally come to terms that Lord Voldemort has returned and that Harry Potter is the only wizard that can defeat Voldemort.
The movie begins with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) suspecting that Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) is a newly recruited Death Eater, a servant of the Dark Lord Voldemort. In addition, Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) starts privately instructing Harry for his battle with the evil forces. During these lessons, the dark past of Tom Riddle (Voldemort) is revealed and the movie provides an excellent insight into Riddle's descent to the dark side and the actors that portray Riddle are eerily wonderful. In the meantime, Harry learns about Voldemort's most powerful weapon, the Horcrux (within which Voldemort split his soul so that he cannot be killed) from the new potions professor, Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent). The movie climaxes with an epic showdown between Harry, Dumbledore, and the Half Blood Prince.
Despite the evil looming over Hogwarts, Harry, Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) give the audience laughs a plenty as their teenage awkwardness shines through their struggles with the Death Eaters. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince raises the stakes and is the best Harry Potter film to date. The movie is a nail-biting thriller and the key theatrical scenes are executed very well. It does a perfect job of setting up the two-part grand finale that is to follow.
