Scott_lea that's really shocking how you were treated. Did you explain to them about her autism- make sure you complain to the management as sounds like you were treated badly.

I did. They just threw the health and safety small print at me and made me feel like a terrible parent. As if I'd put my child in danger - she was on a bit of grass, yards away from anything.

We found it such a struggle getting useful autism help and advice...and don't get me started about school. Lol. This thread is a great idea - I've already contacted Merlin's Magic Wand and asked them for some tickets, so we can try having a nice day at one of their attractions this time.
Thank you to those mentioning booking out of school holidays- was thinking of doing this but assuming would not get 'permission' from the school. Will sound out the head teacher when they go back to school.

an area with some of the highest unemployment in the country and with the only thriving employment prospects being in drug dealing and prostitution.

where the local "celebrity" is a drunken scumbag called ozzy who can be found drunk on the streets sometimes exposing himself to passers by

and some people think this makes a good place for a holiday? I agree that Thorpe park is in a little bit nicer part of the area, but would you holiday in a Basra in a slightly nicer area when there are nicer all round places to go? NO
lol. it was just 4 of us and we were all 38 yrs old so it wasn't a boystrous afair!!!

good deal, i went on a lads holiday a few years ago and i thought it was great, theme park next door is good for kids and the stroll to the town of cleethorpes gave us a 70's and 80's club. few pubs too and good F&C. its also worth a ride down to ingoldmells and fantasy island, two good coasters there but if it's windy don;t bother as they shut them down. best pickey market around too.
I used to live about a mile away. its not that bad that end of Cleethorpes, plenty to do too.

We stayed at Reighton Sands (camping) three times last year, I don't personally think its a 'hole' and the kids seemed to enjoy it, Something must have seriously upset sparklehedgehog because I wouldn't personally prefer to stay in a refuse site, But each to their own.

or just spend a bit more and take your family on a proper holiday somewhere nice that they will actually enjoy...

Its one thing saying you personally don't like these type of holidays, buts its another thing saying others shouldn't enjoy them. I myself have never had a bad experience using haven holidays or butlins and neither am I too snobby too admit it to others either.

have you ever been to Caister or Seashore in Norfolk? Just wondered what they were like!
sparklehedgehog
Whatever you do don't ever go to reighton sands! It's a total dive with awful facilities. Go to blue dolphin or primrose valley as they blow reighton sands out of the water!!!

Caister in Norfolk is good too and so is Thorpe park at cleethorpes

Went to Reighton Sands last year and it was great! A quieter park but worth it for the beautiful access to the beach.
I booked my holiday yesterday thanks for the tip dropped my price by £40 thats for dorset seaview and it is for next august not sure if price changes from park to park and month etc but still a saving.
Managed to get about £60 off a family break - thanks!

Never bought from them before. Can someone help please? Is it just for the pitch? They don`t provide any camping equipment, do they? sleeping bags or tents?

They supply all of you have mentioned plus food, spending money, and free gifts.

oO

Please!
just ring the number on the web site to book and then use your card over the phone to an haven rep. the £14 is for just a basic grass pitch but for just £28 you can have electric hook up , thats a great price at just £4 a night even at the weekend. no haven dont provide tents , sleeping bags etc, but with the money you can save you could buy your own.

Will Seton Sands be classed as a foreign holiday, if Scotland gains independence?oO

Hope it counts as a foreign holiday, taken me 5 or 6 trips to understand the language to a reasonable degree. :)

To be fair its hard to understand certain accents, I need subtitles for accents such as from London especially, or even in Lancashire its hard to know what they are saying due to slang, its like that scene in Austin Powers.

Cant stand all these idiots who say are they going to pay the fine for taking the kids out of school .
If its only going to be a short break for a few days why would you tell the school your going on holiday , just tell the school the kids had a bad cold , cough ect .
We never take the kids away in the 6 weeks holidays .
Where taking them away in may to Majorca 5 of us 7 nights £900 , exactly the same holiday hotel and flights in aug for 7 nights £3000 .
If you pay that you are stupid .
We have a huge family and all the schools the kids go to never have a problem with taking them away as long as you give them notice .

I agree with your comments about telling the school that the kids are off school for a day or so due to a bad cough or cold etc.

But, because the rules regarding holidays during term time were tightened up last year, even if you give the school notice that you are going on holiday during term time, they have to refuse an authorised absence for that, or any other holiday.
Cant stand all these idiots who say are they going to pay the fine for taking the kids out of school .

Just come back off a Haven break again I've never had any of the above problems always had a good experience year on year. However not that impressed with their new entertainment concepts for 2013... having 3 under 5's with us we were disappointed to find we didn't see half as much of the characters. The main evening character time in the evenings has been reduced to a measly 15 mins I know little ones have short concentration spans but blink and u would have missed it! Its followed each evening by 15 mins of queueing for a photo with said character of the evening £5 to purchase and 30 mins 'rock and roll bingo' comes across as purely money makingly thought out this is then followed by 'childrens' entertainment with the funstars who were continually asking kids to twitter - seriously how many under 10's have twitter accounts??? I know they are clearly trying to 'modernise' it but it definately needs a rethink and this thought is shared by several other friends who have taken their annual breaks there in the last few weeks as well so its not a lone view...

We will however having voiced our disappointments return next year hoping that all the feedback from the new entertainment concept has been acknowledged and tweaks are made to improve the new formats. I'll add it didn't 'spoil' the holiday just wasn't on par at all with previous years!

Thanks! Going camping there in a few weeks and saved £10.00 by using link. I also got Quidco tracked aswell....had to go through booking and then save for later and logged back in through Quidco.

How did you do the quidco thing. I saved my booking on haven, signed out, went into quidco into Haven, went to view my holiday interests and it went back to full price.

I just tried it again to remember what I did. I went through the booking from scratch(so the discount shows) and when it got to the Summary and Payment screen before going any further I opened up another tab (i'm using Chrome browser) and logged in quidco, clicked through link to haven camping(if you click on quidco tab it show as "Your visit has been recorded") then went back to my original Summary and Payment tab and proceeded with payment and it showed as tracked in quidco after a few hours. Hope this helps!
