Haynes combustion engine now £14.99 @ Argos

•The engine you build is a greatly simplified version of a real car engine. The model is designed to be fun to put together, and to make it easier for you to understand how a full-size four-stroke car engine works. This box contains all the parts and tools you need to assemble the working model.

This has been reduced by a fiver to 14.99. There are other retailers and eBayers selling what looks like the same model for 24.99.

Unless anyone can tell me there are 2 versions of this kit? Looking at some of the images on a google shopping search, there are some that look different to others (different box colour and engine style). The descriptions all sound suitably similar.

It appears Haynes can't even get the manual for their own product right!

Yeah, seems to go together well enough if you ignore the camshaft timing issue, which is not unreasonable, assuming you're not going to put it in a real car;-)
#16

Well, I got mine home and had a look in the box. This thing is going to be huge. I've been a bit disappointed by some products with a big box that's mostly empty. But this one is a big box that is fairly well filled with bits.
#21
Good spot - I just reserved one.
#22
what fuel does it run on lol
#23
suck squeeze bang blow heat added
#24
Sorry but this is not a combustion engine - it's electric.

That's what I figured. So why do they sell it as a "combustion engine"? Ice cold for me.

Built one of these last Xmas, was good fun and well worth the £14.99 price tag.

It should be clearer on whether it's actually fuel powered

Aye.
Wondered what that was but didn't want to show my igronance. (_;)

Can I buy it for my 1 and half year-old girl?
I mean as an excuse to build it myself :-)
#34
I have a feeling it would not be a good idea to let a 10 year old loose with a can of petrol, that's why its battery powerd, it's a model of a combustion engine!

well seeing as its not fuel powered it wouldnt say fuel powered. If you cared so much about it and read the description you would find its battery powered, it tells you
#36
Here's a real little engine you can build for free, not a battery operated sham. http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~khirata/english/mk_can.htm
#37
Just reserved one of these. I think it would make a great xmas present
