Dont know how to vote this really!

Luckily bought mine from Gamestation for £25.00 with 2 free hd-dvds. Doesn't really matter anyway as my Xbox is sitting in Berlin getting repaired for the ROD!!!

Thanks guys - it's the cheapest I've seen it currently available if you're interested in it and not planning to get a PS3 or Blu-Ray player.

Also you can get the HD DVD movies for £3.99 from Play.com or rent them from LoveFilm or Blockbuster...

saw these in my local pcworld the other day. Was tempted, but then realised that after 6 months it wont get used and will just be an obsolete waste of £30.

The upscaling of my xbox 360 is enough for now.

The HD drive doesnt upscale, it reads and outputs the HD data.

Without it, the 360 will not play hd dvds, but upscales standard dvds.

I connect via hdmi and, while not as good as an hd dvd, the quality of an upscaled normal dvd is great.

unsure if they still do it, but Gamestation did/does have it in for £20 instore a few weeks back. there was also an attached offer for the Hd drive with 2 HD movies for £25. selection was random on the movies but for the price it was good.

also HD movies can be bought cheaper at HMV from £2.99

Gamestation have no new stock near me but they do have some pre-owned with the film 300 for £26.99.

Carlisle had some on the shelf yesterday.

The price at PC World only dropped form £40 a few weeks ago.
#13
Same price at Argos - they do still have them as I checked about a week ago.
#14
@teraomi - repped for that avatar! :)

There's another thread Comet had them for £20.

Don't forget that Currys price match+ PCW.

Also the reserve and collect system is only a guide, a given store needs to have a min of 3 for their system to allow you to reserve, so if they have 2 in stock the r & c will tell you no stock @ xxx store. You need to ring or pay them a visit and then there's no guarantee

how can you upscale your dvds on xbox without the HD Drive?

thought the xbox 360 upscaled automatically but i may be wrong
but if you want blu ray quality from a xbox 360
either download wmvhd or convert a blu rays to wmvhd
they play in a un modded 360 @{1080p and look just like blu ray
if your tv is only hd ready ie 1080i (1366x768)
they will downsacale to 1080i
dont think they play in a hddvd add on though
but they will need burning to a dual layer dvd if bigger than around 4.4 gb
most 1080p ones are around 8+ gb
there are programs out there that convert mkv files to avchd(which both the playstation 3 and blu ray players support) and wmvhd (for xbox 360) straight out of the box. just google it.
well looks like im waffling now, too much jack daniels and coke me thinks lol :whistling::-D

Don't forget that if you've got a notebook without a DVD drive, these are the perfect solution - find a cheaper external DVD ROM drive:thumbsup:

No, you are wrong - they work fine on XP, Vista and thus W7 - there is no "hacked" driver needed.

To read hd dvds on xp you need a special driver. Only way to get it ages ago was to install a hacked one.

No, that's only needed to view the files on the disk. You can still play them without it. And that's only for HD DVDs, it can do dvds etc fine without any.

I use it to play HD DVDs and as external drive for my netbook. I have 2 players and 30 films.

whatever software you use to play the films would have installed its own driver. without that you wouldnt be able to play or view the files on the disk.

You only need PowerDVD to decode HD DVDs. Using this as an add-on DVD player requires nothing extra to be added - Windows XP/Vista sees it as an external player. It comes complete with drivers on a disc anyway so I can't see what point you're trying to make:?

If you dont understand then you wont see the point.

If you want to watch hd dvd's on a pc with xp then you need new drivers. Didnt say anything about vista/win7 or playing dvd's.

Also that disc it comes with is for the 360.

No, you are barking:whistling:

All you need is a software package to decode HD DVDs - Power DVD is a good one.

If you want to use this as an external DVD ROM, you need nothing extra - it's an ultra bargain:thumbsup:

What do you think that software package installs in order to read the discs?? Magic?

Windows reads the device - nothing else required unless you want to play HD-DVDs:p
