They're quite hard to find nowadays, but you can probably pick one up for around £100 second hand (check ebay).

£88 is about the cheapest I can get no wonder there selling HD DVDs so cheap the dead technology you can't sell because no way has a hd player because there so expensive. Good deal for everyone who invested in it.

Yeah, quite a few of us managed to get the players for around £50 including a couple of films...

I wouldn't say that £100 is expensive in any case...it's about the same as the cheapest Blu-ray player...

Well it is for a future tech. If they were still going to compete, but the technology wont be producing any new films in 2009.

Can you only play these on a special player then?

Yes Natalie, you need a HD DVD player or the Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive in order to play HD DVD titles.

There was a format war with High Definition disks between Sonys Blu Ray and Toshibas HD DVD, both fighting for the market share by getting on board whatever film studios to exclusively support one or the other format. Sonys marketing muscle helped the fight against the peoples choice which was HD DVD and Toshiba backed out, making HD DVD defunct, but with a great back catalogue of titles which we can all now get cheap :)

Thank you !!

Better cancel my order then, seeing as I've got a Blu Ray player. I thought they'd both just do the same kind of thing

Sorry hon, there were a few hybrid Blu-Ray/HD DVD players released, check first, but I somehow doubt you have one of those, check your model number and google, or look at the manual.

As I say it is highly unlikely though you have a hybrid that plays both :)

Warner Bros that released Harry Potter films, did used to support Toshibas HD DVD then jumped ship (which was the final nail in the coffin for HD DVD), you can get the Harry Potter films on Blu Ray, albeit more expensive.
