This is compatible with the new Freesat system being launched by ITV and BBC. Not a bad price for a HD system.

Most of HD receivers (apart from very early ones) are compatible with DVB-S2 (HD). The only problem is EPG, which is encrypted on Freesat from BBC.
#3
I don't think this can get ITV HD either

Looks good, I'd need a PVR facility though so holding out for a while yet.

on the plus side, kit like this will get more channels than a bbc freesat box - those ones only tune into channels that have paid to be included and ignore the other free channels - and on most boxes you can't even manually tune them in yourself - which is crazy.

Well like with Freeview and DAB the BBC is involved in Freesat and so it will be, at least to some extent, half-arsed.

It can get ITV HD but you need to download the newly released firmware on Fortec's website.
The new firmware has ITV HD as a dedicated channel (it uses non-standard jiggery pokery signals but the Fortec bod's have input it all in), I believe that the Freesat branded boxes will access ITV-HD as a red-button access from any other ITV channel.
Anyway the new firmware also has the new frequences for the newly FTA'd E4/+1, More 4/+1 and the FTA stream of Channel 4.

I've got mine as 'b' grade from Maplin since before Christmas - think it was around £90 then, but not with the dish and connections.

does anyone know if they are going to be bringing out recordable freesat boxes so I can use my sky quad lnb?
#9
Start saving for Crimbo as that's when they are supposed to become available

None of my receivers (I've got 4 of them: DM500, 2xTM9100 and Conrad STB2005CI) are able to receive any kind of extended EPG from Freesat. There is a very basic EPG, yes, but it was there for ages.
