What is amazing is how many people fail to check to see if the deal has already been posted - and this seems to have been, multiple times -)

Having said that - its a pretty good deal.. although you get the "Dell'ites" who will forever point you (cough) to the dell website or returns site in order to get rid of dead stock.

Aldi is always worth considering .. they do give value and their PCs are usually well made. Shame it has no web-cam though ..

Sorry - looked at the most recent posts from Aldi, and it didn't come up.

Oh well - must be a good deal if being posted more than once!

I looked at Dell a while ago when I was also looking at buying a Mac. This was under the assumption that Mac's were expensive. Anyway, I went onto the Dell website and spec'd a Dell to match the Mac exactly, and the Dell came out more expensive! Conclusion - Apple don't seem to make particularly expensive machines, they just don't make cheap ones. I fear however, I may be opening an unwanted can of worms here!

Sticking HD in front of it is a bit of a con.

Most new PC's will do the equivalent of 720p and it doesn't actually have a High definition drive eg Bluray.

Your right .. Apple is not a hated word (or brand) so you can say it safely! ... It's a desired brand and a few friends of mine own the latest Macbook 13" and the 15" Pro .. and they are lovely machines. You pay for the 'design' in my view.. and general quality. I would be hard pressed to find something as good looking that will last and just works without problems on the PC front. PC notebooks are cheap and cheerful for people (most of us) who do not wish to spend a lot of money and do not care about looks or comfort -) .. Given the choice, I would be "Appled'up" any time of the week ..

£450 is not a bad price for a new system that can handle most things well .. with a decent warranty that is often worth at least £100 or more in its own right. Netbook prices are creeping up in price all the time (new generation.. NC20 seems to be being priced around £440 from what I understand) which means this unit at £450 would be miles better.. albeit less battery time. So, its not bad in my view.

I'm not saying it's a bad deal, in fact it has good specs, but branding it an HD laptop is going to confuse people.
#7
Seems reasonable to brand it as an HD laptop, as it has an HDMI output so you can connect it to an HD TV...
#8
My parents watch analogue TV on an HD ready TV and think it's HD so I find the use of the term unnecessary and confusing in many cases.
#9
That's a fair point. My father-in-law thought that because his HD ready Samsung TV had a built-in digital tuner that he was watching HD tv. It took me a while to explain what HD really was and that he needed an HD source to watch HD quality content.

However, I still think that if a laptop is capable of displaying HD quality content, then it is fair to brand it as HD. Particularly as it has an HDMI output - which not all laptops do.

Where is the value in this laptop? Sure it's not expensive, but I've seen cheaper at ebuyer!

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150324

this comes with a seperate graphics card, better processor and better brand...for £397. There's even a similar one for £350 which still has a better processor, just 1gb of ram less....which you could order at the same time for £15...

The graphics performance of the is almost identical
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Graphic-Cards.130.0.html
And laptops have a habit of dying one month out of arranty so the three year warranty is priceless unless you only need it for 11 months,

pc world have an acer for 429.99 and has a much better spec, 4gb memory and 320gb hard drive.

How is that better spec,AMD turion is much slower than core duo and is more like celeron,As for the Ram ,The reason PC world and dixons push it so much is because it is the cheapest thing the can upgrade right now so the pretend it is all that matters and everyone is suckered into believing them,Putting 3gb of ram in a turion is like putting lipstick on a pig

Looks a good spec for the money - heat added. :-)
