Very very powerful camera for the price, is this a grey import?
Yes, these are Grey. Don't be too put off by that tho. I use one of these for wildlife etc. its a great camera for this, and i'm not yet convinced by the D500s ability to crop as well as the D7200. Beats my D810 and D4 in this area anyway

At about £10 more from Clifton Cameras I'd go for a D5300 with 18-55mm lens. https://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk/Nikon-D5300-18-55-VR-II-Kit/Colour/Black
With the D5300 you get a larger, fully articulated LCD with higher resolution, more focus points, AE bracketing, built in GPS as well as more built-in effects such as HDR and time-lapse recording.
Does the D3400 have a microphone port? The D3300 didn't but I'm not sure about the new model.
D3300 has a stereo mic jack. No mic jack on the D3400.

The D5300 is a bit heavier than the D3400 and the battery life is much improved, but in most other respects the D5300 is either as good or better for not much more money.

EDIT - Actually D5300 even cheaper with AF-P 18-55 just £385 + delivery at Hdew: http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/nikon-d5300-kit-af-p-18-55-vr-4216-p.asp - that is a way better deal.

Regardless, this is still an £80 saving over other retailers.
The higher ISO capability on the 3400 may also be useful
whats the link for the D3300 at £280 ish with the VR lens? mostly 300 - 350 as far as i can see.
There was one expired offer from Argos at eBay http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nikon-d3300-24mp-dslr-camera-18-55mm-vr-ii-lens-271-99-argos-ebay-2486198

This is now £395. Do I need to purchase extra lenses? I know absolutely nothing about these DSLR cameras. Would you recommend this or the Canon EOS 1300D deal? http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/canon-eos-1300d-dslr-camera-with-18-55-mm-dc-iii-zoom-lens-ef-75-300-mm-f-4-0-5-2501083

@SaxonStar - 50mm is a bit long for indoors on an apsc camera. The nikon 35mm 1.8 is a very good standard and a bargain too.

Wow, what a price. I bought mine from Amazon a couple of months back and love it. Make sure you get a good prime lens as well for the perfect combo (I've got the Nikon 35mm one). The Nikon 55-200 is a great lens as well to go with this. Along with the kit lens it gives you good options for different scenarios.
I've been looking at prime lenses for once my other half as got over the shock of this purchase. I've heard good reports over the 35mm and the 50mm. Any recommendations for one over the other?
I recommend the 35mm for a mixture of everyday use and standard casual portraiture. I went around all of South America and Europe with a Tokina 11-16mm and the Nikon 35mm as my two travel lenses and wasn't disappointed. I tried a 50mm but it just felt slightly too long for everyday use, although it was possible to make shots look quite intimate using it. Best way to find out which one works best for you might be to stick the kit lens on the focal length of each for a day or two.

I agree i own both those lenses and they are pretty much all I use.

Try not to all laugh at once.... but I currently own a Nikon D80. I really want to upgrade to this (especially as I'm going to a wedding this weekend and was planning on taking my D80) but I need to justify to myself the cost of the upgrade opposed to waiting.... someone persuade me?
Nothing wrong with a D80 mate, Im still using a D90 my next upgrade is with going to be the D7200 or I might go mirrorless, but i wont be doing that for a while. its prob worth investing in lenses than a new body, unless the body is not allowing you to achieve what you need.
I took this a couple of weeks ago on my D90https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7443/27326340906_18d2db7302_c.jpgCarew Castle Lake Bed by Sean Lowe, on Flickr

Thanks for that, I think I will look at getting a new lens. Great picture by the way!

Best value / price per GB XQD card I could find for my recently ordered Nikon D500. Elsewhere such as Amazon are selling for at least £170. Bought one and am waiting for delivery. HDEW sell imported

It's quite a different beast to your run of the mill SD card.
