yeah but cheap HDMI leads only transmit 0's and 1's.
Expensive cables tansmit 0's, 1's and 2's.
You also need a gold plated mains lead and gold fuse to appreciate it fully
#14
Good deal, although similar priced leads have been available on Amazon for some time (accepted that on Amazon anything under a fiver incurs postage costs).

Maybe the lack of 2's explain why the £10 10m cable i bought which was supposed to handle 1080p gave me a such poor picture and sound. The £50 QED cable i replaced it with gave a perfect picture and sound.

Dont listen to all these people who seem obsessed that cheap cables are as good - if you want anything over 4-5 meters, DONT but a budget cable if you need 1080p.

Having said that, for short runs such as this, im sure it will be fine. I am using a £4 cable for a 1M run and its fine so voted Hot.

That's a good deal, cheap digital leads work just as good as expensive ones, either they work or they fall off the digital cliff, there's nothing in between, on or off, 1 or 0, binary code you see.:whistling:

it's important to get a half decent HDMI . it must be gold and be a 1.3b.

I had a silver one before and still can't believe the difference in my new gold one.

You need better shielding for long cable runs, but that's not an issue on the 1-2m needed for typical TV setups, where performance will be identical.

1.3+ is only important if you're using Dolby TrueHD audio equipment. Apart from that, ALL HDMI CABLES SUPPORT 1080p.

And no, having gold connections will have ZERO impact on the picture quality.

Nonsense the £10 cable was faulty or was not designed correctly

but by the design and manufacturing quality of the cable.

1.3 is available on most HDMI cables now...even the cheap ones. Over relatively short runs cheap cable is fine. This all depends on the amount of interference from things like mains cable near the HDMI cable run. The best way is to suck it and see if you buy a cheap cable and it doesn't work you haven't lost a lot but if you go out and buy Monster HDMI you have already spent stupid money probably unnecessarily. If you make sure your cable runs across mains cables not along the length and keep cheap cable to under 5m you should be fine. You cannot make the picture brighter, more colourful or have better contrast with an expensive HDMI cable. If you have interference you may see the odd sparklie (a bit like when the Sky or Digibox signal is bad) if it's very bad then you won't see a picture at all or it will freeze the image.

I went to the currys site and lo and behold there is a belkin 2m hdmi cable for £97.99 plus about £6 postage. £104!!!

For those who might suffer from interference and as I write this I'm using my pc with my plasma display using a dirt cheap hdmi to dvi cable which is goes over and under numerous mains cables with no issues at all. Anyway if you do suffer from inteference you can always use bacofoil and a bit of tape to add some shielding. Thats not to say all high price cables are immune from interference either. As a general rule you can see the quality of a cable by looking at it. Thick cable and strong looking connectors normally means a good cable. Very weak connectors and thin cable are more likely to be problematic. I've never encountered a hdmi cable that didn't work perfectly though.

I must be really dim tonight but the OPs post mentions finding a £2.99 cable in Wilkinsons in store but links to a site called UKHDMI which does not have £2.99 cables.

Is he saying that the cable he saw in Wilkinsons was branded UKHDMI or am I missing something??

You not on your own I'm a bit confused by that too, but no one else said anything so I was keeping quiet and pretending I hadn't noticed :whistling:

It may not perform any better but at least it will coordinate with your jewellery - money well spent I reckon.
