If you cannot find it look in the section:

Had one of the Aldi HDMI upscaling DVD players approx a year ago. Worked fine FOR A WHILE but wasn't very pleased with it although concept was fine as is their 3 year warranties.

The manual was truly dreadful and it packed up fairly quickly though can't remember now what went wrong.

Worth a search in the AVForums for user experience as we werent the only disappointed people.

Remember Aldi no longer have their generous 1 year satisfaction guarantee. Now it's just "as long as you return the item within 30 days of purchase
– with a receipt, in original and undamaged packaging..." though obviously if its faulty and/or doesn't do what it's meant to then you have the full legal rights for years.

Market prices for HDMI upscaling DVD players have also fallen a lot in the past year - eg replaced last year's Aldi with a £70+ Sony, but now you can get a Philips DVP5960 model from Amazon for under £40 and make it multiregion, albeit with only a 1yr warranty.

Bought mine 8 months ago, and has not worked right for the past 6 months (will not read any discs at all). Took it back to Aldi who said I need to contact Tevion. Phoned the Tevion helpline who took down my details and said it would *eventually* be replaced when more stock came in. But she wasn't sure when this would be, so as far as I am concerned this particular model is a complete waste of time.

Another who's had the Tevion8000 and it's died, the HDMI setting sometimes un-set itself, but now we can't see the menu through scart or HDMI so it's a paperweight. Is there a contact number that others have used then?

Surely there must be a time limit when they must either replace or refund?

Still it is very nice to have such a nice cold rating, gives me the will to find other deals and post them only to have them rated freezing as well. Not everyone has the same taste or the same available cash to spent on higher priced items as some people are suggesting, and they might only have access to the likes of Aldi's to do their shopping. Always a pleasure trying to please you

I never understand why manufacturers still produce dvd players without avi support. It's as important as dvd support nowadays. If it can't play xvid files, bye bye.

Its a great price tho! Voted hot.

Mine does not read all discs, it sometimes freezes in playback, but whilst it plays in playback mode it struggles a lot with menus. One to steer clear of.

I've had 2 Tevions in the past, the first stopping working after 6 months, however the one we have now has been fine for over 2 years. Just bought one of these today. Ok, it will never stand up to a premo make, but for the price, the quality is good and the features are first rate-usb, card reader, HDMI and lead included!!: For the price, I still say this is a Bargain.

Just bought one, seems OK to me. Ain't region free though, and finding a region free code is pretty impossible :?

The Evesham one has expired and the Amazon one is "Availability: Usually dispatched within 1 to 3 weeks"

for the sake of AVI playback/reliability it's worth the wait

Reviews from this thread don't seem too good. Think I'll give it a miss, will stick to my Blu-ray for now.

At these low prices and when sold through places like Aldi one should expect the customer is the quality controller rather than the factory.

Have you tried the hack for the 8000 model? (sold by Aldi last year)

1. Press the Open button on your remote control to open the drive tray
2. Press the 9 button on your remote control
3. Press the 9 button on your remote control
4. Press the 9 button on your remote control
5. Press the 9 button on your remote control
6. Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, the 2 button for region 2, and so on, or the 9 button for multi-region playback
7. The newly selected region should be displayed in the top right of the onscreen display
8. Press the Open button on your remote control to close the drive tray

Let me know if it works, might get one if it's multi-region, also whats the upscaling like?
