I was in Lidl today expecting to pay £22.90 (already reduced from 32.99) for an HDMI DVD player, but it went through the till at 19.99. The original post for this is:

see http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/277662/hdmi-dvd-player-32-99-lidl-availabl

but at this price, it deserved a new post I think...

The specs are :

Ultra-slim DVD player with integrated 7-in-2 memory card reader and USB port for reading JPEG, WMA, MP3 and MPEG 4 formats
HDMI 480p/560p/720p/1080i/1080p
Records from audio CD onto USB or memory card media
Plays CD-R, CD-RW, DVD±R and DVD±RW and many more
Includes remote control with batteries, SCART cable, Audio/Video Cinch cable, Nero software and user manual
With integrated card reader
Card reader supports: CF1 and CF2, SM, MMC, SD, MS, MS-Pro
Connections: S-Video, 5.1 Audio, 1 x SCART, 1 x Cinch, optical, HDMI, USB 2.0 and VGA
Available in silver or anthracite
3 year manufacturer's warranty

The manual says the usb/card readers support 1gb cards/sticks, but I'm currently ripping a CD to an 8gb stick :-)

I was told they had plenty of stock at least at Reading Basingstoke Rd - although it's not on the main floor - but I'd ring your local one to be sure.

It's not supplied with an HDMI cable, but I just ordered one for £0.99 off ebay (inc postage!)

Region free by - open tray, 9999 then 9 (this final 9 is shown on screen), power off (from remote). Power back on... tested with a R1 disc before and after.

Is this store specific?

Cant see it mentioned in the online link.

As I mentioned, I found it in the Reading Basingstoke Rd store, but it may well be in others. It isn't a current offer, but as many know, Lidl keep selling stuff till the pallets are empty.. DVD players tend to have to be asked for, and my local store had quite a few available. Whether other stores have them or not, I can't say... hence me advising to ring your local store...

Nope. No video input.

I don't know why people buy upscaling players.
There's very little/ no difference in quality.

I didn't buy it as an upscaling dvd player... I bought it as a cheap dvd player that played mpeg-4 and had a card reader.. that was my sole requirement. I doubt you could get one that only did that for less than £20.

I've tested it with the DIVXTestCD 2.0 and posted my results over at divxtest.com. The results won't be visible yet - as they have to be verified by a mod.. I expect a score around 62% (based upon the 6517 test results that are there.. mine are very similar).. There aren't many players listed that score over 60%

plays divx etc,etc off usb stick (farmat fat32 only i believe). only gripe with player is if you use ff or rwd for any length of time on compressed "files" the audio goes out of sync with the picture and is a ****** to get back in sync.

DVD over DVI looks so much better than Scart/Composite. For this reason alone, this deal is scorching.

Plenty of people out there will be blown away by the difference between the interface on an LCD panel.

Can't ring local stores - they are ex-directory apparently

http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.service.c.Customer_Services.index

I was told non in stock Oldbrook or Bletchley for Milton Keynes area.

Wanted two for the kids. If anyone can get some I'd be happy to pay for postage.

Assume good over Hdmi.
#23

No, neither this nor your pc's DVD player will play HD-DVDs. HD-DVD, despite it's confusing name (what genius thought that up?) is a totally different format like Blu-Ray, and requires a player that specifically says it will play HD-DVDs.
#31
Bought one a few years ago for an xmas pressy for sis from Scan and it was £30. Not the same brand name but looking at the manual the osd is the same.

These cheap players are made by the same manufacturer and just re-branded to any name.

Yes, it plays music, pic and divx/xvid files from usb and sd-card.
#32
still available at the beckton, london branch. you have to ask the sales peeps to get one from the manager's office.
#33
Dvds look as expected, but I can't get it to see any divx files on my usb 2.5" drive, in the or folders or the root. Shows nothing found, i think it can't power it fully, will try a normal usb stick.

Update - It is powering the drive fine as when it says loading on screen the hd light flashes

Is your 2.5 inch drive formatted to NTFS? I think it needs to be formatted to FAT or FAT32 for it to work.
#35
Thanks for the region free code.

So I went to Feltham store midday and they had some of these players (not on show but in the storeroom?). First time I have been able to get a Lidl hotdeal (they normally sold out when I try to get any), thanks
#36

it is fat32, i use it with my xbox 360 fine, maybe because its 320gb or maybe a file limit on the player, i've got just over 9000 files on the drive
