Go for it, it's so easy to save yourself a fortune on your heating bills by improving your loft insulation.

I assess houses' energy efficiency for a living and so often people rely on minimal loft insulation.

Voted HOT!

Don't waste your money getting the 175mm insulation, 100mm is perfectly adequate.

Good price though, hot

100mm only adequate if your existing insulation is adequate to allow the use of 100mm. and for this price the thicker the better even if after a certain thickness it doesn't gain any benefit

What a strange post! How can you waste your money if it is £1 roll? - bargain

In fact doing what you say IS wasting your money as the value would be to get 175mm or 3 lots of 100mm.

In FACT you should do 270mm. 100mm between joists and 170mm cross layered, fancy that they do 100mm and 170mm it is almost as if someone else thought of this ;)

Due to high demand, the £1per roll offer (which was limited to the first 10,000 customers) is no longer available. :x

Good grief - read the headline! It hasn't even started yet. Why are so many people so negative?

I see lots of lofts where the original insulation may be only 50mm thick, if it exists at all!
The advice is to top up to a depth of 270mm, so if you have 100mm as many do the 175mm is ideal, if you currently have 150 mm you could go either way. On the other hand, for the sake of 12p per m2 difference, why not go for the thicker stuff? Although the difference thermally will be slight, that slight difference will be of benefit year after year.

A word of warning, if you have downlighters in your ceiling you may need to allow for the dissapation of heat into the roof space. The best bet is to replace the downlighters with LED lights, that way you save money on lighting and you aren't hindered in insulating your loft.

To add, all electrical cables should be ABOVE the installation and 75mm space between recessed light fittings or you can get a tube of some kind - not got a link...

If your going to be putting a lot more insulation in your loft space then freezing pipes becomes a lot more of a problem up there, that's why 100mm always used to be the recommended thickness. Also if your going to do this yourself make sure there's no insulation under pipes and tanks. You need some heat to rise up into the loft space.

On a similar note there's loads of problems with damp on new build houses now because everyone's trying to make them as energy efficient as possible. Ventilation is kept to a minimum meaning houses cant breathe.

Just my thoughts...
#21
Yep never insulate under the cold water tank IF you have one in the loft and allow for ventilationat the eves although reading space blanket installation it says make sure wall plate is covered, probably best to follow the instructions OR buy installation insulation DVD :) from B&Q which apparantly is good. Think I am ready to install - oh know the entrance needs to be made bigger to get the roll and my wifes **** up!

Thank You amibees, heat and rep' added.

Do you have to be an NPower customer to take advantage of this offer, I'm sure it was open to anyone last time round?

think what you like mate im just stating facts !
like the fact that we (the group) have 100000 rolls awaiting delivery on outstanding order from rockwool with only 41000 available accross the country that's why it's taking so long cause we are still waiting for rockwool to catch up so why on earth would they start taking more orders???
the offer has been on twice now and will be back for sure but i doubt it will be tomorrow and that's not my opinion it's from the group marketing director:thumbsup:
npower keep trying to push build center to run the offer every couple of weeks but nobody can cope with demand

lol.. :-D

Yes, but what I meant was that I neither get my Gas or electricity suppliied by NPower, so I don't see myself as an NPower customer as I don't have a contract with them, so can I still apply for the £1 a roll deal on offer?

**AVOID**

A complete waste of time and money. They are quick to take your money but cannot supply the goods. When you order you are given an email with a selected delivery date but fail to delivery.

For over 6 weeks I was promised delivery was 'on the truck' and yet nothing appeared 4 times. Told a pack of lies since the second I ordered online. Wasted time off work waiting for 4 deliveries that never came.

You have been warned

the website ordering is a shambles much better to phone the branch and order but as ive stated rockwool cannot make it quick enough so there is a massive backlog
build center branches have no control over stock allocation

excellent price just need to get hubby up in to the loft now to check whether our new home needs any.. it's like pulling teeth out..!!!

Hi guys.

Thinking of going for this. Is this to fit in between the joists etc in the loft? - we have some existing yellow stuff (probably about 20 years+ old) between our joists but it looks old and not sure if it's doing what it should be if you know what I mean.

Our loft isn't boarded as such but has lots of boards/planks of wood resting on the joists with boxes on top which are full of junk (like most people I guess).

Can anyone let me know if this stuff or the Space Blanket stuff is any good for this.

Thanks

No you don't have to be a customer, I asked the same thing when it was mentioned during Homebase and then B&Q price war..... I actually ordered some the other day but was given heads up by someone. I cancelled and will re order. The guy who claims the he has spoken to the marketing Director is imo talking absolute nonsense. I know where there are litterally 1000's which are not allocated to anyone and containers more on the way. If it doesn't happen tomorrow morning it is happening very soon.
I obviously want my allocation but read carefully on the best and obvious way to order.

It is Rockwool, take a minute and have a look at Npower,Build Centre and Rockwool's website but quick answer is no it is not space blanket or encapsulated.

Thanks for that.

So, as per the title, this offer is meant to start at 18.00hrs (6pm) today then?

I'm not sure what you mean about tomorrow morning?

I'll try the link tonight and see if it's been updated, from buy one get one free.

Will this be a UK wide deal?
#38
Well the stores close at 5pm. Online it may be live but I am not doing that so that I can wait months as is alleged through this post. I could have ordered on Monday and had them today at current price obviously.
My dilema now is whether to go for 100mm between joists (certain) and then cross layer with 2 lots of 100m (200mm) or get the 170mm stuff.
Think I will remove old stuff and dump in a corner of the loft to avoid carrying through house and not sure if to do 270mm or 300mm....

Cheers, when I saw the headsup and info I was given I was pretty certain BUT don't want to make the guy above look too stupid. I think he is in a board meeting at the moment.

To be fair to him, his depot might be snowed under and one of the ones that are having difficulty meetimg orders and his Sales Director might not up to speed with everything the company has planned (I know mine isn't).
