Description:

An epic tale of crime and obsession and two men on opposite sides of the law.

When Al Pacino and Robert De Niro square off, Heat sizzles. Written and Directed by Michael Mann, Heat includes dazzling set pieces and a bank heist that USA Today's Mike Clark calls "the greatest action scene of recent times". It also offers "the most impressive collection of actors in one movie this year" (Newsweek). Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore and Ashley Judd are among the memorable supporting players in this tale of a brilliant LA cop (Pacino) following the trail from a deadly armed robbery to a crew headed by an equally brilliant master thief (De Niro).

Heat goes way beyond the expectations of the cops-and-criminals genre - and into the realm of movie masterpieces.

The ending wasnt that bad. The ending to Sunshine is much worse.

Awful film, wooden Pacino' pointless love interest that is nothing to do with the plot, comically badly lit scenes that look like something from gone with the wind. Go get 36 Quai des Orfèvres and mr73 instead, up there with the godfather in quality.

Bit harsh, but 36 is tip top.
Isn't the transfer a bit crap ?

Both of the main leads' 'love interests' are integral to the plot. They represent the sacrifice each of them has made to live the life that they do.

And the ending is perfect. A truly great film, possibly the best 'cops and robbers' epic ever made in fact. The last time Pacino was actually good on screen too.

Hot.

Its a weak attempt a at cop Noir and im a huge Michael Mann fan, i went back to the film 2 weeks ago after viewing in the cinema on release and it had not improved. At the time people were almost scared to admit it was bad because of the leads. It is a watch-able film but see and see it done properly in:

L.A Confidential
Serpico
Chinatown
The French Connection
Or any classic Raymond Chandler Based Noirs these all pay Hommage to at various points.

The last (and only) film Pacino has been any good in was Scarface, wooden is the word, in fact I'm pretty sure it should be spelt Al Pinocchio! lol

Fortunately though Robert De NIro and Val Kilmer make up for him and it's still a classic, if ever there was a film that needed an alternate ending it's definitely this one!

Yeeeeh one of the best shootouts in cinema. I believe based on that shootout, filmed from a news chopper in LA, of a robbery that went wrong and the guys where all tooled up with AKs and body armour.

no way! most films has some relationship in it. pacino was a copper-holic so he had relationship trouble!... it showed the character of his role. This was one great film at the time and still watchable today! The shooting bit was so real when i watched it at the cinema!!!

BTW how do they make it in blueray when such tech was not avail then?!

... and tell me Pacino's acting is bad.

motherfunk, I don’t know how you can call yourself a fan of Michael Mann's films and call this awful, since it pretty much put him on the map as a director and the films he's since made in this genre (for which he's most notable for) have all paled in comparison. As for the cinematography, Dante Spinotti has worked on most of the films he’s directed. In fact, there aren’t many DoPs working today that have a more enviable filmography (with the exception of Roger Deakins and Wally Pfister).

all films made in the cinema ( going back 70 years ) were done in a higher resolution than what blu ray can do. it's down to the film studios to do a good job of the transfer to get a great picture tho

All good films, but Heat is excellent. I've heard the transfer on this isn't great though, so worth bearing in mind if you're upgrading from DVD, otherwise get it.
