I was in LA in '95 doing one of those ultra touristy guided tours of the sights when our guide said "you're really lucky, they're actually filming a new movie on this street at the moment". Turned out to be Heat and the legendary running gun battle. Classic film.

Was about to say, the only remastering that need to be done is pacino dies at the airport and Bob gets away Scot free.

Remastering this would mean pacino dying and Bob getting away with the fit young girl, then maybe I'll purchase. The way it should of been ...actually no messing about at the airport at all....the most politically correct end of all time.

I usually tweet the Manchester branch to ask them to keep a copy behind the till. 90% of the time they're happy to.

Nonsense. The whole point of De Niro dying was to show the consequences of taking way too many risks. He had plenty of chances to get out, and was shown to normally be extremely cautious, but against all advice he didn't leave when he should have. Made perfect sense for him to pay the price for that.

Not as good as "The Heat" with Melissa McCarthy

Apparently Andy McNab from the SAS was on set adviser for the gun battles which accounts for the realism not only for the way the actors handled the weapons but also the awesome sound of the gun battle.

still a rubbish ending

really good film,rubbish ending.

It was kind of neccessary as it meant both De Niro and Pachino finished the film well.

Great price for what it is, definitely worth getting if you don't already have it. Sadly though it's a really underwhelming remaster, hence it being so cheap despite only coming out last week.

One of the very few films that really nails the audio for a gun battle.

My take (SPOILERS):
It ended exactly as it was meant to given the characters.
Both characters are on a one way course which they cannot deviate from because of their nature. They both know where it leads but feel compelled to stick to their destructive habits because it's all they know. Bob dies at the end because that's his path. His career as a high profile thief is always going to end in his death especially when he is faced with pursuit by someone as determined and single minded as Al. The consolation is that Bob doesn't die alone. Al will most likely dies alone with no hope of companionship at the end.

Just look at the end where Bob has a chance to get away. with his companion. Does he take it? No he gives in to his nature and knows where it will lead. He even finds himself making the call to drop everything and walk away when the heat is on by walking away from his companion to run.

They cannot change their behaviors or their paths no matter how much they try. Bob was always going to die being a thief. Al was always going to die alone, having given everything to his job.

Seriously? I watched my copy which arrived yesterday and it's a beautiful transfer. The audio is spot on too. Blows the original Blu-ray out of the water.

Plus the 2016 filmmakers panel extra on the second disk is an excellent watch.

Transfer looks like crap when you do a direct comparison. They've ruined the colours.

I looked at it slightly differently - Hanna couldn't change track, costing him marriages along the way. McAuley, on the other hand, would have survived and gotten away clean if he HAD stayed on the "no attachments, nothing in your life..." track. His feeling for Brenneman's character (can't recall her name in it - maybe the one genuine criticism of the film is that the female roles are a little underpowered), his need to get revenge on Waingro are what cost him.

Owned this on DVD and now blu-ray. Do I really need it again?
