I remember watchng the CCTV footage at work of a group of blokes stealing the cameras off the walls. They were in cages too! The cameras, not the men!

I think that it should be a new Olympic sport for the 2012 games. Everyone in the UK should be provided with an armour-piercing rifle and plenty of ammo. The gold medal would go to the person who took out the greatest number of CCTVs during the period of the games. The rifles would then have to be handed back but it would not be allowed to replace the damaged cameras or to put up new ones. Instead, the occasional policeman should be used to catch the small number of morons what are actually causing most of the crime.
This sport should be repeated every two years until the Big Brother spies no longer blight our lives.

JunkMail, did you, by any chance, purchase the "Dirty Harry" set I saw on HotUKDeals yesterday? :whistling:

Indeed.

Junkmail - did you perhaps mean that the armour piercing ammo would be used to shoot the little [email protected] that actually cause the requirement of CCTV. Lest we not forget it was only through personal CCTV that the little [email protected] that kicked a guy to death recently were caught and able to be prosecuted.

Good deal btw!

Doesnt look like you can connect this to a pc :(

It is a bit worrying that people feel or actually have the need to fit this type of thing.
One solution would be to put poisen in Value Burger's and White Lightning, thus ridding the country of the bothersome yobs.

Good price for the technology though.

Shame its not wireless.

Or allow the Police to be a "force" again, not an extension to social services?
Remove human rights for criminals?
Allow parents to smack?
Sentence criminals to prison time, rather than foreign holidays and community service?

Or... remove a socialist government that allows this all to happen and is mostly responsible?
(Oh that's right, it wouldn't do any good as they given all our own legal rights away to the European Union)

Let's just carry on reading The Sun, UK Hotdeals and keep our heads in the sand and vote Labour cos we like football. People in this country have got what they deserve/voted for.

Sorry but no one is attacking you personally. It is just that the use of CCTVs is an extremely controversial issue. Those who think that they are for our safety want CCTVs everywhere. However, many regard CCTVs as a gross violation of our rights and want them removed. No one could say that CCTVs don't have their uses but they should only ever used in very specific circumstances and, on a temporary basis. The controversy is really caused by the mass, indiscriminate surveillance encouraged by this government. You either love or hate CCTVs. There is very little middle ground. Personally I fall into the 'hate CCTV' camp which is why I semi-humoursly suggested the new Olympic sport of CCTV bagging but, I will never be happy until all the CCTVs are removed.

i understand people's concerns on the big brother society, but surely personal CCTV on private property falls outside of this remit?

Shut up!

A fine example of missing intelligence ;-)

A CCTV camera on your house is a detterent to would be thieves - simple as that. In a road of 100 houses, the last one that's going to be randomly burgled is the one with a camera.

True, a burglar alarm is a deterrent (if it works or is set) but all it does is draw attention to the house because it's making a noise. The thief can be in and out with a phone or handbag before it's even gone off or even while you are in the house. They won't if they think their approach will be filmed.

I dont agree, how many times have you rushed to a house with the alarm going off, or instead just thought "thats annoying"?

And so by surveilling individuals who are trespassing on my property, I am interferring with their rights? It's my right to protect my loved ones and property.

CCTVs are rarely positioned so that they only look at your own property. They usually overshoot into the street or into your neighbour's land. That is where they interfere with rights.
Solution - Have an alarm and if you must have CCTVs put them inside your house.

That was the right quote. The Police do what they are told by the Morons in charge :x

Or get the tape!

A camera can be a deterrent but often thieves will wear masks or make sure they get the tape. A better idea is to have a hidden camera inside the house. Alarm as the deterrent and hidden camera to catch the trespassers.

CCTV on private property is fine, so long as it doesn't view neighbouring properies or public areas etc.

The area under surveillance should also really feature a warning sign.
