It is. You can't make Helium so when it's gone it's gone. And we need it for MRI scanners I think. But since humanity has about 1000 years left (according to Hawking) before we all die from lack of fossil fuels, hunger, disease, nuclear war etc etc etc......

You can make helium, you just whop two hydrogens together. Piece of cake.

and yet while so rare on Earth, Helium is actually the second most abundant element in the universe (after Hydrogen)

I'm actually quite offended about that accusation! I avoid anything with Dara in at all costs. I wasn't sure because I couldn't remember. Having looked at Wiki though it is MRI scanners and a few other things.

As for Hawking, I don't recall him saying anything at all. :{

EDIT: Not everything is learnt from planting yourself in front of a television.

It's the MRI scanners that are using the most helium.

Yes Helium is rare and yes it is used in MRI scanners and yes we only have a small finite amount left BUT if you bother to do any research these balloon kits and 90% of these type of balloons use "balloon gas" NOT helium. "Balloon gas" is the waste gas AFTER Helium has been used in MRI scanners and is not using any precious resources. Feel free to campaign against the small % using raw helium but make sure you're campaigning against the correct people!
#26
They're rubbish wouldn't waste £5!
