im always afraid of garden chairs but benches seem alot sturdier
i was supposed to be going to focus today but im putting it off as id just have to do the work so cant tell if instore also!
#8
Good price but is it me or do the seats look rather low?

looks more suited to a kids party.

They were doing the same sort of deals last year; make sure that you treat the wood with some sort of preserver as it will just loose its finish.
#10
Bit naughty to include the parasol in the pic when you dont actually get one, still a nice looking set and a cracking price!! Nice find
#11
I saw these in focus a couple of weeks back and they do look lovely, although remember you getting backless benches so nowhere to lean back onto, and though I didnt sit on them they may well be a little low for some peoples liking.

But deifnitely a bargain at that price.
#12
they've actually got a load of outdoor wooden sets reduced - a few at 50% off

Looks like jsut what I'm after! Does anyone know what the build quality is like? Wood quality??

Not overly good to be honest, my brother has this set. Take the RRP price with a pinch of salt.

Nice one. For £99 it only really has to last one summer to be justified :-D
#15
Excellent find. Love the benches instead of chairs
#16
Anyone know the size of the table?

So having seen your brothers set what do you recommend the RRP to be then £20? £40? £60? or £80? for four benche and a table.

Would be useful to know so we can make an informed choice.:whistling:

Dont get me wrong for £120 you can do a lot worse. Id be tempted if I needed a set. :)

but I wouldn't expect it to last too long, I would have been disappointed with it had I spent £200 or £300. My bro had to sand some parts when he got his and the wood wasnt finished too well, i.e. splints of wood shearing off on some edges etc. Meaning it had to be revarnished in areas. The wood is also quite thin (ie. on the table and chair legs) so theres a fair bit or wobble and give.

I bought a set for £150 earlier in the year and the wood quality and finish is far superior to this set. Realistically Id put an rrp on this of £150-170. Ok to last a summer or two.

Personally Id hold out for deal with chairs, (morrisons have a half price sale on one soon) seeing as the benches have no back support some may be susceptible to a bit of slouch or back ache after too long.

So not overly comfortable for too long a period. :)

Focus are a terrible company for misleading reductions (I worked there for 18 years)
What they do is 'price establish' goods at a really high original price for 28 days, then they offer 50% off (which if you wait another couple of weeks will be 75% - trust me its been like it for years!)
The target selling price for this set will be £99.99. Anything under that then you are receiving true price reductions, anything over is extra profit.
This set is made of a very poor quality malaysian hardwood which will give good service for approx. 1 season, then fall to bits (You wouldn't believe the amount of returns you get of shoody goods)

Thanks for the info,

Totally agree, would never have thought this set was realistically £300. When I saw it I thought it looked like fairly cheap and that the quality was low.

Buy this if you want a set for this season only, or if I was you I'd simply wait for a higher quality set to be on offer. B&Q normally have good sales on garden furniture, I got my set for £150 at £60-70% off a real RRP.

Well, I ordered this after midnight on Wednesday, and it arrived Friday morning! Kudos to Focus for that.

3 Parcels (1 for the table, 2 for the chairs) requiring simple self assembly involving allen keys and about 8 phillips screws. I stress simple as it's far easier than most self assembly items that you can come across from establishments such as Argos; everything was perfectly aligned, no forcing of screws was required!

With regards to the Quality, there has been a few negative comments left on here, but I'm happy to say that they are completely unjustified. The wood is a lovely colour, and there were no rough areas at all on the wood - all very smooth, and generally belied the fact that it cost just £100. In fact, a few friends and family were shocked at how inexpensive it was, and are very tempted to buy it.

It's also really sturdy; I'm a pretty tall guy and weigh around 14 stone, but there is no sign of distress on the benches, or wobble of any kind. The table is also rigid, and there is no wobble. However, it does come with screw in feet that can be adjusted to compensate should that be the case (say if you placed on a less than level patio surface).

To summarise - we are very, very happy with this patio set. For all those that can't decide whether or not to have a flutter on the purchase; do it - you really won't be dissapointed with it.

Finally, we coupled it with this base http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001001&langId=-1&searchTerms=6504177&Submit=GO+%3E

and this parasol http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001001&langId=-1&searchTerms=6503415&Submit=GO+%3E

and it looks absolutely great. Plus Argos have a save 20% offer if you purchase the base and parasol together, so yet more savings.... :-)

Hope this helps someone.

I'll second most of what Red27 has said. If you can find something serious against this set considering the cost, I'll label you a serious whiner :-D

Several coats of garden furniture oil/paint (as clearly mentioned in the instructions) will see this through a fair few summers more than £99 would suggest it should (granted I've only had it a few hours). And the lower seats give it a lot more of a pub bench feel, which is my personal taste. I hate the usual garden chair look.

burge74, that re-pricing/sale method is used by a lot of places. I think by law an item only has to be at the original price at a few stores for a period of 28 days (or something like that) and then you can say it's on sale and the original price was a lot more.

Bottom line is if you expect it to be worth £99 quid you'll be impressed when you get it.

Oh and cheers Red27 for the parasol and base links

I can also confirm that they have this instore at the same price too :)
#25
I can also confirm what Red27 said the table and benches were really easy to assemble and it looks fantastic to me!
Happy customer!
