Good tip review for those interested:

3.0 out of 5 starsBe aware of letting the batteries run out completely!

I bought these in December '13 and was very pleased with them up until the batteries ran flat. With new batteries inside, the scales now just read gibberish despite anything that I try. Salter say that once this happens, they are irreperable which is fine if you are still within the warranty period (as I fortunately am).

Having searched on the net, it appears I am not alone and the trick is to replace the batteries as soon as the low-battery indicator comes up, rather than wait until they run out completely. But that's neither ideal nor guaranteed. Hopefully this is a tip that may help others though.

So far I've not had this problem but then again never say never...lol...

I know these also seem expensive for kitchen scales but the lightning deal price compared to other places is actually very good for them...cheapest price I've seen them before is around the £30 mark a year ago around this time at Curry's...

Is this accurate and does it weigh in 1/4 ounces 1/8 ounces and 1/16 ounces?

Oh lordy...I work in kilos but have had no problem with accuracy...the smaller platform weighs as follows:

The precision (200 g) platform and distinguish weigh at 0.1 g increments for those precious ingredients

Just looked it up on google and got the following oO :

Using the standard for today's cannabis dealings, one quarter ounce is 7 grams...so ehm yes I think the smaller scale will weigh a quarter of an ounce...lol....

Think I'd spend half and get these for £12.89 while they are on https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B012NOWIGY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480329537&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Salter+Stainless+Steel+Electronic+Digital+Kitchen+Scales# Only up to 5 kilo but respected brand so unless you're weighing turkeys every week a much better buy imo

Ehm these ones are also made by Salter...not sure if you realised from your post when you mentioned from a respected brand...I wanted this particular set as when I'm baking I'm weighing large and very small quantities which is where the little platform comes in useful...saves me having to hawk 2 sets of scales out of the cupboard each time...yes I know I'm lazy....seriously though I've found the smaller precision scale being on the set of scales along with the larger weighing scale very handy...

Just a very quick reply...never thought before but if it's just the precision scale you want then there are cheaper options out there for a small set of precision scales for weighing...ehm your quarter of an ounces of whatever :p

No I didn't know they were Salter thx, sad when a company like that puts Heston Blumenthal ahead of their own brand name. Wonder if there any 'Pucker' scales from Jamie Oliver. Not that he ever measures anything out ;)
