Yup , Dixons only placed this laptop on this morning at this price , i thought it was a good price , not sure what price the laptop was when it first came out , but i put it in google and some sites have it brand new over £370.

Had a refubished laptop from dixons before and it was just like new so hopefully these will be.

they were faulty, nvidia kept quiet about them and let companies use their chips in loads of systems which caused them to fail quicker

Not sure if its the 8200 although I think its likely. Most of the 8xxx range and apparently some of the 9xxx are affected. I've only read about the 8400/8600 though seen as I was going to buy a laptop with them in.

To the person who said they have a years guarantee the problem is long term.

One quick link: http://apcmag.com/nvidia_disaster_thousands_of_gpus_faulty.htm
search the net for specifics there's loads about it

As long as you have got it sorted mate.

I read a few threads where people were out of warranty and the manufacturers wouldn't cover it. The motherboard often needs replacing as well you see as it overheats causing damage to it. I know someone who it happened to but they were covered by Dell who came and fixed it, replacing the motherboard.

Still as it is a manufacturers fault and they have admitted to it, you could possibly argue that it should be fixed free of charge.

just doing webchat with a dodgy hp rep and it seems this laptop should NOT be shipped with the media remote and she says there is no way it would work with this model it only works with the model it was meant to be supplied with so few of us got a free useless media remote hahahah DAMN.....

i wondered why there was no slot for it to be put away :(

There isn't any infra red port so probably rep is right about it.
It also has a webcam which is not described in the detail, I was happy to see it.
The GPU seems to be not bad and at least no sign of overheating at the moment. I played Half-life2 on full resolution, the display was smooth and good graphics. It's an old game but with memory hungry Vista premium it's not bad result. It's a good buy for £250 even if the remote is not working :).

Fleabay can get us few quids for the extra remote.
Googled lightscribe and it came up with"Lightscribe Direct Disc Labeling is a new technology from HP to make disc labels. Using a special LightScribe program, drive and coated disc media, it makes disc labeling really simple". Source:http://www.lightscribe.co.uk/

Hot.

Mine arrived and immediately Blue Screened!.

Went into Safe mode, where a wizard automatically installed something and then it worked fine, until the HP Start Up wizard - which also Blue screened on the Finish button. Did not do it again the 2nd time.

Not impressed at the 'Refurb' software quality, but it now works fine and is a great laptop for the money.
