This was brought to my attention by someone in another forum asking me if it was a good deal, take a look at what you get for your money, ok its not a Dell but it looks like quite a nice spec for someone wanting everything in the one package.
Dont forget Quidco for further cashback savings too.

# 250 GB Serial ATA Drive
# DVD Writer Double Layer
# Microsof Works 8.0

Hehe, and I recommended this deal to that someone in the other forum!
Good idea to post this here too!

It does look very appealing to me and HP build quality is good too :)

I've just e-mailed CyberPowerSystems to see if they can beat this (admittedly I've asked for a slightly different setup; I want better RAM and Graphics and no screen or TV tuner) ;).
#6
Yup nice find, once again this is yet another example of a ready made PC (medium range) that costs less to buy than it would if I sourced the parts and built it myself.

It was only about 6 months ago that I could build one of these and save about £70!! Now it would cost me £70 more than price stated to build this!!!

Would Play pay Quidco on a computer?
They don't do it on other hardware, such as consoles, only on peripherals.

My Mum had a HP PC a couple of years ago, which was heavly customised. I never found the "Windows Restore" only the HP version that insisted on wiping the hard drive. Maybe it was faulty but I personally would never touch one again. Anyone else had similar problem?

Anyone know if the TV Tuner is analogue and digital, does not seem to say on the HP specs.

Perhaps a stupid question - this is for a family member who does not have much room and wants to connect it to their LCD TV rather than the monitor. I assume the LCD TV has a VGA input, but on the HP spec it says the graphic card just has "DVI-I" - does that mean they would not be able to connect it to the TV directly or can you get some simple convertor?

Any specs on the monitor - inputs, resolution, refresh rate etc? (as it will be spare I'm thinking using it myself, or possibly connecting to a games console)
#10
Heres a link to the advanced spec, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00719453&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_UKEN#N255
in the I/O ports part it only mentioned "I/O Ports: S-Video, DVI-I, DVI-I" however it uses a Geforce 7600GS and when I googled that some did come with DSUB as well so not sure.

Didn't think their advance specs were that good - didn't even say if the tuner was digital!

Thanks. I have found that you can get a cable such as this:

http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/DVI-VGA.html

which "enables a DVI-I source to be connected to a monitor, TFT, or Plasma etc with a VGA connector" so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for this Mike....good spec for the price.

Anyone tell me what model the widescreen monitor is, please? I've searched and can't find any mention of it. Thinking about buying this for the base unit only and ebaying the monitor. TIA!

If the pic is of the system, then that looks like a widescreen monitor to me!

Wow,

This the exact monitor I wanted to buy! Just that if I bought a Dell I would have sold off the monitor to buy one of these but now am thinking that this looks a better deal.

Whats the view on this? Is this better than the other deals by Dell which are currently on offer?

Many Thanks
#20
looks a good deal Mike, maybe apart from the processor. Can anyone say what is better/faster, this D 915, or a Core 2 Duo 1.86?
#21

Here's the info for the e521 model: USB: 6 Ports (2 Front, 4 Back) + 2 internal
#24
Oh Ok..Rayman any idea which is the better out of the two?

Or is it better to buy a Dell and a widescreen (HPs style separately)

It's all down to personal choice really. I can't say what would be best for you, as your needs would be possibly different to mine. Also, I like both Dell and HP about the same, recommend both as a brand.

Monitor model and sepc....................

http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/tft-monitor/hp-pavilion-w19b/details/

Great deal, very good spec all round. I expect at some stage you may want to consider extra memory, certainly if you up grade to vista.

I have researched this HP PC and the only negative point I can find is that it only houses 2x hard disks and the motherboard can actually take 4 disks. Also there's no external sata connections so the only way to add additional disks would be to use USB but the tranfer rate/speed would drop considerably.

Thank you, I have ordered one of these for my son's birthday.

Glad to see this one is finding favour, looks a bargain still!

Sorry if it has been discussed but I can't see any mention of it! Does this include an upgrade to Vista for free (or nearly free, I know you have to pay postage) Looks a good deal as my desktop needs to be replaced

Hello everyone, it's my first post on HUKD :)

I am the "someone in another forum" Mike is referring to in his first post, so I can humbly take some credit for this hot deal!

In answer to mrme's question, according to this http://h20219.www2.hp.com/services/cache/416458-0-0-224-121.html it may qualify for a free upgrade. According to the FAQ that they refer to (http://h20219.www2.hp.com/services/cache/443347-0-0-224-121.html) it will qualify if purchased between 26 October 2006 and 15 March 2007 and has a Windows Vista Capable logo. So I think it all boils down to the logo.

A good deal anyway IMO.

Hi,

With DVD's they normally come from Jersey to avoid VAT with Play.com. If the PC comes from Jersey will we end up with VAT and Import fees to pay?

[mod]#37
Bazza1603 and skippydoo there is a phone number for Play at the bottom of the page, why not ring them to voice your concerns then once you have the answers you can order feeling quite satisfied that all will be well.
#38
Hi,

I have ordered!! Theres been plenty of Play deals about so I was hoping someone would know the answer.

I will ring tomorrow and post the answers if I get a chance.

As Play.com is a jersey registered company it is not part of the UK. All purchases are subject to Jersey law.

It is therefore possible that you could end up paying VAT and or import duty on any purchase you make from them :w00t:

I hadnt realised this until I ordered an £800 PC from them and the thought suddenly occurred to me that Jersey is not in the UK:oops:

Luckily the PC arrived via Parcel Force without any extra duty being added along the way.

Below is the blurb from their website

If your delivery address is outside of Jersey, you may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Any such additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. You should note that customs policies vary widely from country to country; Play.com advises each customer to contact their local customs office for further information.

I called them earlier today before ordering. To be honest they weren't too clued up. Couldn't tell me much about the monitor for example - suggested that I google the system ref for more info!

Did say that no VAT would be payable though.
