I couldn't find this mentioned on HUKD,although someone advertised their voucher.

Basically you can get glasses which you would pay £30-£99 for in famous companies like Specsavers for only £15. Also I found a 15% off voucher on HUKD but I am not sure if it still works.

The owner of the company is a 21 year old entrepreneur who realised that infact famous glasses companies are putting high prices on their glasses to increase profits when actually glasses include as much metal as a spoon. He has saved many people millions of pounds by selling the EXACT SAME glasses for much cheaper, and in the process he has become an millionaire himself.

FWIW James Murray Wells who set up glassesdirect is probably 23 now (he was 21 when he founded the company).

The £15 doesn't include P&P (£2.50) and the extras, like anti-reflective coating etc. which can more than double the price!

Personally I use www.opticals4less.com who's prices for rimless are $39 (USD), vs £45 for glassesdirect. And that includes free anti-reflective/scratch coating and free P&P.

Either way, both are much cheaper that UK Highstreet, and to date I haven't had a pair that have caused me any problems, which is more than I can say for some I've had supplied by high street "experts".

YMMV - Rufus.

There quite of few of these companies around. There was an article in the independant about high street opticians trying to get it made illegal to purchase glasses online.

I know when I went into vision express to get new glasses it was empty compared to a couple of years ago. They quoted frames + plastics lens £150+ for basic lens.

In the end I got a couple of pairs from http://www.spexmaniac.co.uk/ , come in two weeks at around the same price as glassdirect , but come with thinner lens as I've got a 6+ lens need. Some of the screws don't look as good as the high street but at £15-45 buy a couple of pairs for the accidents etc ( or riding rollcoasters like me )

Just came across your site and buying glasses online.

I ordered new glases from http://www.spexmaniac.co.uk . They were only the basic £15 plus £2.50 p&P. After ordering they telephoned to double check my prescription and advise delivery.

When the glasses arrrived they were fitted with a free thin lens. With bad eyes and a high prescription I have always paid £100+ for quality frames and thin lenses.

Spexmaniac even gave me a voucher with 10% cash refund off my next pair or for my friends to use, which I guess includes everyone at HDUK.

Just quote 1953SG when ordering and they will give you 10% refund

Even without the refund Spexmaniac are great value, I'll never buy glasses in the Hight Street again.

If you want good personal service then you can do a lot worse than use www.spex4less.com. You can ring them on 0800 1691734. At these prices I have 4 pairs, all told. (Reading, Computer, Driving (Tinted) and everyday bi-focals)
This'll earn me another free pair of specs (Only Kidding, Ha Ha).

There was a huge forum on MSE. Look here. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=29444&highlight=spectacles
