He fought his first battle on the Scottish Highlands in 1536. He will fight his greatest battle on the streets of New York City in 1986. His name is Connor MacLeod. He is immortal.
Conner McLeod survives a wound that should kill him in a clan battle in the Scottish Highlands in 1536, and is banished from his village. Years later Macleod is met by Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, a swordsman who teaches Macleod the truth about himself; he is immortal, one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body. When one immortal takes the head of another, the loser's power is absorbed into the winner. Ramirez teaches Macleod the ways of the sword, until he is killed by gravest foe, the evil Kurgan who lusts for the ultimate power of the immortals, "The Prize"; enough power to rule the earth forever. Connor must fight his way through the centuries until the time of the Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the ages will come together to fight until only one remains.

In New York City the final fight is about to begin, and in the end, there can be only one.

Not fantastic according to the AV Forums - video OKish but sound rather poor and muffled according to some http://www.avforums.com/forums/blu-ray-movie-reviews/1068424-highlander-blu-ray-review.html

Doesn't fare much better here http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/3848/highlander.html but then as a deal, it is a good price :)

Overall, a worthwhile upgrade over DVD

This used to be one of my all-time favourite movies but every time I watch it now I just cannot forgive the abysmal 'wire-work' at the end. I know at the time visual effects weren't as stunning as they are now but still...

Maybe they should do a bit of digital re-mastery on this and touch in some of the blemishes - namely the aforementioned faux pas!

Compared to the DVD it is a major upgrade in PQ

Buy it!

This was up on my list as a classic film, but after rewatching it recently, I thought it was terrible.
The wire work, the dialogue just hated it. Leave it in the past with fond memories..

Yes, you can see the wires, yes the special effects look dated at some points, it's 25 years old!! Awesome movie, I got the blu ray, not a bad transfer at all.

Not got it on DVD and was one of those 'I'll get that one day' titles. The day has now arrived! Voted hot.

Nice one, was just going to buy from Amazon for £6.99.. :)

Was a bit wary about this. I'm definitely not one of those blinkered souls who firmly believe that just because a film has transferred to Blu ray it automatically makes it far superior and worthy of buying. However I have read the comments on AV Forums, specifically the improvement over the DVD Immortal Version (which I have), and it's clinched it for me. Cheers :-)

By the way, has anybody seen it for this price in store too, or is it definitely on-line only?

Good price but not risking another cancellation from them.
I am getting mine from Play for £6.99.
