It doesn't wipe the floor with it at all. This card performs between GTX 570 and GTX 580, beating the GTX 580 in some benchmarks. The GTX 580 cost £400+ this card cost £279.99 for about 10% less performance, Nvidia might have to lower there own prices now to stay competitive, these cards will be very very popular with anyone who knows what they are talking about...

it may/it may not, the fact is the gtx starts at just under £400 while the 6970 starts under £300. you don't expect a card costing £100 less to be faster do you?

also the 6970 was being made to beat the gtx480, at that time amd/ati didn't know about the gtx580. unless they made the 6970 from scratch, they can't expect to bring the performance of the 6970 to the level of the gtx580. it's the 6990 that will be the one to beat the gtx580.

he'll only be able to do that once the benchmarks are released.

Very good launch price, a good strategy from AMD, seeing as their new cards are slightly less capable than the nVidia one, but at this price, the cost/performance ratio is much higher.

yeh I wouldnt pay stupid money for a 580, Ive bagged a 6950 (the smart money card imo) for £216 incl del

only read 1 review so far but looking at that for my needs the gtx570 would prob be a better buy, I have a 24inch 1920x1200 monitor and looking at the results in that review the 6970 looses a lot of fps when you turn on the aa and falls behing the gtx570. that's only 4 games that review tested so I'm going to have to have a look at other review to tally up the performance in the games I have/intend to get befor making my final choice.

my current cpus(q660 and q9450) will prob be a bottle kneck, looking at doing a new build and waiting for sandy bridge before building so the new graphics card will go nicely with that :)
