Here's a review.

Here's the AVForums thread.

Tempted by one of these but I have a load of original xbox's with xbmc. Other than being smaller I cant see no advantage for me. My tv's are only 720p which the xbox can do.

If I didn't have them I would jump at one of these.
#5
Does it downmix dts over hdmi?
#6
yup.

the xbox with xbmc is great, but whilst it makes an attempt to play 720p mkv's it just can't play them. this will. i got a streamer that was compared to this as it uses the same chipset, but i paid a bit more, and one of the first things i noticed was the PQ was far better through hdmi than component cables and even SD material looked miles better. the main thing the streamers don't have that xbmc does is audio synch adjust or visuals whilst playing music

£35 is an incredible price as the next cheapest streamer that handles mkv is about twice the price. i might get one as a second unit for another room that doesn't need to be used often for streaming, and replace the xbox in that room

Will get one for bedroom then and leave WD HD box in living room, any free postage codes?

people tend to use 46 if you read the av forums thread..

ordered last night, looking forward to getting it next week.

i can't believe how cheap it is for a network streamer with mkv dts support..

Cheers for info, though the link needs logins and passwords, found this link now:

Yes, the appletv is undoubtedly a lot more professional and a joy to use, but only supports the formats that iTunes supports which is limited and converting them becomes a real hassle once the novelty wears off. As for functionality, they are somewhat in different fields and do different things with only a small overlap.

Where is the best place to download full HD movies?
#25
very tempting, looks a great buy if you have a NAS box
#26
It is dispatched by expansys and you have to pay postage too. Some positive reviews though on the site

i've had both my xboxes that i self softmodded set to 720p with 5.1 sound since i did them, but the xbox just doesn't have the processing power to play a standard 720p mkv file. it tries to play but just stutters/hangs/locks up. you can play some material at 720p, but not mkv which is the container of choice for tv shows etc these days

regarding apple tv, nice idea but crippled by apple as per usual to only play stuff via itunes until someone jailbreaks it to stream anything from smb shares. at £99 you have a better choice of competing products unless you like being locked down to itunes or don't have 5 minutes to setup your network and files to play with a standard streamer (which i suppose is a lot of people, itunes probably dumbs people down, especially mac users). the front row style front end looks nice, but i prefer playing my media than looking at menus. other streamers offer all sorts of fancy front ends if you like that sort of thing

if the apple tv did play everything, ie. it was like a streamer plus it had the apple tv stuff added, it'd have to think if the extra £30 was worth it for something i'd not really use

Can anybody tell me what the menu GUI is like in terms of the items? For example, does it show a picture/customised cover art for the items?
Thanks

From reading the reviews the user interface is very basic and no cover art is possible currently, but at this price I think thats forgivable.

Placed my order, Will see how it compares with my WD media player :)

Thank you

Not sure about the bears and tigers in the video clip, looked a bit cruel to me

Ive just gone to uni and only have a 720p TV and no surround sound now.

Will this play my 1080p mkv collection with DTS sound through my 720p TV (downscaled, obviously) and the TV speakers? I would prefer to connect through HDMI but could use component + RCA audio.

Find it odd that you say the xbox's cant play mkv files. I stream movies etc, to the tv, everything from avi files to mkv files, no problem. wireless aswell. Through windows media center. nothing fancy. no soft modding. research please.
