The 19" version of this was posted the other week, this is the 22" version of the same telly which seemed to go down fairly well! Online only. 12 month warranty is included.

A few of the key points...
720p based on the "number of pixels" quoted
Freeview tuner built-in
Inputs: 1x SCART, 2xHDMI, 1x"PC" (which I assume is VGA)
Contrast: 1000:1
Not wall mountable

Of course this has all the caveats that a refurb from DSG goes with. I've bought one but any sign of it losing all the channels or being anything less than perfect (as described) and it's going back for a refund!

good price, have some heat.

Any idea what the sound quality is like? I had one of those Tesco "specials" and the sound was really tinny, it put me off watching it.
#3
It's not meant to be particularly good sound according to the reviews i perused earlier

Thanks... I guess due to the size of theses there's not much room for some decent speakers but surely there must be a semi-decent sounding one. I dont mind paying a bit extra.

I bought the 19" version. If it is the same, then the following applies:
Yes the sound is rather thin. However, this can be remedied quite cheaply by adding external powered speakers such as a 2.1 system plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack at the back of the TV (if it is in the same place as the 19" version).
I used an old Creative Labs system I had gathering dust. Note though, that the headphone volume is set via a menu on the TV. I find it is better to leave this preset and manually adjust the volume on the speakers that are attached. Some may not find this ideal but is fine for my needs (kitchen TV).

It depends how fussy you are, and I am! I'm very happy with my 19" setup.

Heat added.

any pics mate?

Pics wouldn't be any use. The TV is on a window-sill. The small pod speakers are behind the TV so can't be seen. The sub is on the floor hidden beside the freezer in the corner of the room where the TV is. They do have a volume control knob as mentioned previously.

Downside is that there are a few trailing wires but these are mostly hidden behind a radiator.

Just ordered one! Saw it on the curry's website, then came on here to look for curry's vouchers and saw this post

Hi all,

Does anyone know if headphones can be used with this tv?

Thanks
#11
Not really a Hitachi brand (yeah I know it says Hitachi but as with the Hitachi 22"" I have from Argos it ain't made by Hitachi but some Turkish company with license to use Hitachi name/brand so check if you can get support from Hitachi. See if the model number is listed on any of their sites)
#12
lol i remember when i worked at currys they re-called evry single one of these tvs for some reason.........

i think a customer bought one and it exploded or somthing lol

This seems like a good deal as been doing some researching. Anyone know what it would be like to play an xbox 360 on it? Not really sure if the brand gonna pay out for the money
banned#14
Very good price, I suggest if you want this id buy it quick, as it will sell out quickly.
#15
Hitachi havent made tv's for years - they are produced under license like their bizarre power tools range!
Still, at that price cant go wrong.

i got the 19" which seems good value.>>However sound from 0 - 1 is pretty loud.
and it remains the same when you got up a notch

Thats my only issue...and a small loose screw rattling inside the tv when I un packed it..
#17
missed the 19" one - we have a old 15" lCD analogue what we paid £300 for atm!!! Will be great in the bedroom. Cheers OP

Anyone know what these are like as a PC monitor ???

yes i got the 19" one too and the only problem is the sound is on the tinny side.
and the same as you, i think the volume doesnt change alot, if any from 1-10 and 1 is loud.

the picture however is excellent in my opinion
and runs on my xbox 360 in 1080p 60fps

I ordered 2 on Saturday & checked earlier & they were in the Lincoln depot which isn't too far from Leeds so may have them tomorrow :)
#22
Could you folk please keep us up to date on what you think of them when they arrive and are tested.

Don't really need one, but tempted as an option for a spare room or to give as a Xmas pressie.

Thanks.

just got back to work and mine is on my desk - is it just me, didnt realise it also has a built-in DVD player too! :w00t:

Its actually a L22D01UB
#26
Whaaaaaa? Mine just came and it doesn't have a dvd player built in, nor did I expect it to! Lucky break! It seems to have a dvd-drive sized bit blanked off though.

Anyway, looks in great condition although I forgot how massive 22" is :)

Sorry if i got your hopes up - i didnt expect one either - i had to unpack it at work to check it actually had the DVD player. Looks like a few lucky few will get DVDs then :)

Closer inspection reveals there are minor scuffs to the casing but nothing you see unless you look for it. Screen is matte, should that have any bearing on your decisions. One day I shall turn it on.

Oh and mine's H01UB, which explains a few things! Sound is predictably poor, I would liken it to a speaker in a polystyrene cup

Here's some piccies!
As you can see the picture quality is rather good: it successfully conveys the horrifying presence of this Tory...

And the finish is rather nice, here's a close-up. The plate the whole thing sits on is actually glass and there's a good angle of spin on it.

EPG is neat, if TINY and for some reason white on light blue text. It does 7 days.

Mate have ya plugged a PC into it ?
I really want this as a monitor as I only use my PC for playing 4od and BBC Iplayer... Would this be better than a regular monitor ???
And is it easy to set up
#30
Not tried it as a monitor just yet, but it doesn't lose all the channels when you unplug it so that's a relief. Set up is easy, but channel search takes about 10 minutes which is a bit tedious.
#31
Im not lucky enough to have freeview in my area :( which is annoying since i splashed out on a 32inch sony bravia with built in freeview that just plays analogue and looks pants lol

Whats the verdict then? Well worth it? I cant imagine it would be a bad monitor would it, hmmm
#32
Seems good overall, though the sound does annoy me. There are EQ settings but I've not tried yet. Also it specifies a resolution of 1680x1050 if you want to use it as a screen.
#33
got it home and unpacked - great looking. Easy to setup. Initial problem is a single dead pixel in the middle :x :x :x Dont know if i cba to send it back esp. as its got a DVD player.

Anyway, i thought the picture was analogue close up, but it was digital! Switched on some of the picture settings (dynamic etc) and messed around with the colour etc and now its pretty good. Wont be watching it close up, its far end of the bed on a chest-of-draws.

Overall, very happy, just that green pixel :(

Mine hasn't got a dvd built in :x

Great picture, crap sound but it's at the end of my bed so will be on low sound so not a major issue. Nice looking unit though & overall very pleased for the price

Your loss. I've bought numerous refurb items, good as new, warranty as new, cost loads less. Where's the problem.

The exception being the 19" version of this telly which I bought having had the heads up from this site. Absolutely ****. Sound quality awful. Bizarre volume control - 0 being silent, 1 being too loud if anyone else is asleep on the same floor. EPG and other menus unreadable from the end of a bed. But these are all design issues, not refurb issues. If you get a refurb item online and it is not *new*, send it back. Simple.

Took the TV back to my nearest Currys and got a refund. No sweat.

Some people just don't like stuff, for no good reason. Distance selling rules give them that right. But if you do like it and you are happy to have one that has been out once, you can save 20% or more. I can' t think why any one would dismiss refurb out of hand.
