Jump to unread Post a CommentYes. I had mine delivered last week and its already in my NAS. There is a tutorial on Youtube showing you how to take the hard drive out of the casing. Be aware though that removing it will likely invalidate your warranty as you will likely snap the clips holding the casing together. I had a bit more success removing mine from its housing than the poster of the video as they seemed to snap most of the clips off the case rendering it unusable (unless they glued it). Although I snapped some clips off I can still use the casing for another hard drive if I wish as it still clips together.
Here is the tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=morhgz2OU_g
LOL I think he would have done less damage if he used a power drill and a sledgehammer :D
He wasn't the most subtle at removing it I must admit. It is quite difficult to remove the case without breaking at least some of the clips as the case is designed in such a way that it cannot be easily opened. The hook clips face inwards towards the inside of the case so that even if you know where they are located applying pressure to them actually pushes them in the opposite direction you want them to go. Expect to break at least some of them off unless your not planning on using the case again then just follow the tutorial vid :D
That's not one for debate on UKHOTDEALS. It is a technical question that you will find has numerous responses if you search on Google - just paste in your error message wording.
Ps. earthquake and small tsunami in Japan 2 days ago means the hard disk production market won't be putting their prices down much further anytime soon, so if you need a drive buy one before the pre-tax year sales end!

Be a lot better if we all had that code.
Even at 80 quid, this is still overpriced by at least 10 to 20 quid.

To quote ianbeany
There's a 7200rpm drive inside
Cause:
This problem is caused by an issue with the Windows 7 Backup and Restore utility when using drives with 4K Logical sector sizes, which are found on WD 2.5 TB and larger external drives. This is different from an "Advanced Format" (AFD) drive which use 4K physical sector sizes. AFD drives should not cause this problem.
