great price, heat.
#3
is this 50hz or 100hz?
what is the model name of this lcd? is that Hitachi L32A01?
#4
I was just about to post this!Do a seach and this has been posted at this price before, but back in stock for BH. . Got one from ARGOS you can't reserve this item, so not sure as how you will get Quidco as not available for home delivery. Lots in stock but they expect them to go quickly at this price. Btw had a Sony Bluray on offer for £150 which I thought wasn't bad!

Lets be honest this is the bottom of the heap £300ish 32" HD TV`s. The good folks that buy these and give them rave reviews simply do because they know no better and what better there is to be had for the £300 price range on 32"`s these days.

Hitachi make bottom of the heap TV's, I don't think so! It is a good brand 1080p and has PIP function and for this price you could not buy a bottom of the heap Goodmans, (£299 in COMET btw) and there are an awful lot off good folks who gave their views, hundreds vast majority excellent. Obviously they know nothing about TV's. Yes it is an older model, but you try and find anything close to it for this price. Put it another way you try and buy one after the bank holiday for this price!

What a muppet - trolls must eat those 32" TVs.

Good spot OP - heat added.

Well I spent £600ish on another TV (Sony, which I have always bought) before buying this one and this one actually looked and sounded better.

I had to get a cheap replacement after my niece threw a candle at my Sony.

I got it at this price about 3 months ago and have been very happy with it.
#9
Is this better than the Toshiba Regza 32" LCD TV that is being sold at Amazon etc for around 299?
#10
The Toshiba for £300 is definitely better. So is the Samsung 450 that is £308 at Dell

I'm sure you're comparing the Sony to the Hitachi AFTER the candle damage! :whistling:

It's not 1080p - it's 720p/1080i (Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.)

If you are on a tight budget, then yes this 'may' be classed as a cheap (not necessarily 'good') deal .. HOWEVER you cannot compare this to other decent brands (e.g. Sony / Samsung / Panasonic) - even a Toshiba is better for slightly more money.

If you can stretch your funds a bit more, go for a decent brand.

If <£300 is your limit, you'll not get much anyway, so this is probably the best of a bad bunch, although I dread to think what standard def viewing is like on it. :whistling:

If you do your research, you'll find that Hitachi are big in Japan...they make top quality products.

What is your point? popular or "big" as you put it doesn't necessarily equal good.

There are plenty of people out there that buy other cheap makes (e.g. Bush / Alba) and I'm afraid they do not compare.

I'd therefore still argue that Sony / Samsung / Panasonic are better than Hitachi any day of the week

With LCD TV's in most cases, you get what you pay for. but as I said above, if this is your price limit, it's probably the best of a bad bunch.

Yes you can spend a bit more £30 - £40 and get a better TV and then a bit more again and get a slightly better one, and so it goes on. For the price and the excellent reviews, and there are lots on the Argos site, this is a very good buy for a branded TV. If you are on a tight budget it is worth mentioning that you can get half price stands and brackets if purchased at the same time. E.g. wall bracket is only £15. It is fine to criticise this deal, all I say is find better for the price! The only one which comes close is Richer Sounds and that store is miles away form where I live and it would cost me far more in petrol than I would save.

exactly!!!

you can keep going up by £50 quid and get a better and better TV.....

I picked up a 50 inch samsung FULL HD 1080p for £700 which is only just over twice the price and a FAR better TV...... but thats NOT the point.......

This is a HOT deal for this PRICE!

Samsung LE32B450C4W has Freeview. I have been after one for weeks and the price from dell is the best price for this TV even excluding quidco. For the reviews and features this is one of the best TVs available in this price range and from a 'reputable' brand.

Yes, this model does have freeview. And who on earth wants PIP on a 32? I don’t use it on my 50 or my 42.
Specs don’t mean anything. You really think that this Hitachi sold at Argos is going to be comparable quality? I don’t. The processing will be poorer, the contrast is just 1100:1, it has poorer speakers, less HDMI, its fugly, its a much older model… I could go on and on.
I would rather spend the extra £20 and have a decent TV, but everybody has their preferences.
There is a reason why a TV like this is not for sale at places such as John Lewis, and there is also a reason why Argos make huge profits on very cheap build TV's.
#28
Why's everyone banging on about PIP? i've never known anyone to use it!! It's on my Humax box anyway :)

Am looking for a 26" for the bedroom, something like this for the equiv. price would be excellent
#29
good price , voted hot.

This model doesn't seem that bad - Hitachi are a good make (not Panasonic or Sony) but close to tosh. John Lewis do sell Hitachi. (not sure about this model)

Speakers on most LCDs are crap - if you think any different then your a mug. Decent shielding costs weight and money. Thats why most people into AV have dedicated sound setups.

Maybe you can educate the good folks into the art of buying HD TV’s at this price as I am one of the stupid people who just ordered this and in your wise opinion I have just wasted £272 for a Hitachi.

 I will be happy living with my mistake
#31
Good for the price.

As said you can keep saying add another £50 and get better add another £50 and get better.

If this does the job and £270 is your price range then what are you waiting for.
#32
I bought a Hitachi 22" TV with dvd £179 and 42" TV that was just £399, both from argos. Althogh I am fairly happy with both of these for the price I would be careful in recommending them. I've always bought 'branded' TV's and after having a Hitachi many years ago thought I'd be ok. The 22" has average software and is slightly blurry sometimes when used as a monitor (which I mainly use it for). The 42" has several gltches. The picture has a matt, fairly flat look. The EPG is tempramentel, the software freezes occasionally and some of the sound settings create a LOT of noise. Both look a bit cheap but not offensive. In summary, although both were dicounted they are only worth what I paid. Neither are anywhere near as good as an older Panny set that I have. They are no better than some of the unbranded models that are about (which is effectively what these are as they are rebadged) and there are some great deals about on branded stuff that is only slightly more expensive.

Shop around - don't be so easily swayed:

£279 Samsung

... and for those that think Hitachi are soooo good. You can get one from them for £249.

It's not 1080p - it's 720p/1080i (Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.)

Well although it claims to have such resolution, it is capable of 1080p. I know it can due to the fact I have the tv connected to an upscaling DVD player that goes up to 1080p and I've recently been playing Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360 in 1080p on it too. :)
#37
oops xbox 360 max resolution is 720p
#38
for £279 you will not get a 100hz lcd
#39
Just checked the manual and it has a max resolution of 1920 x1200 which is 1080 resolution and it has a table with 1080p max 60 hz. So where does the 720p mentioned come from?
#40
Excellent. Lot of c**p on this thread about specifications, how good are your eyes!!?. I've seen this telly and the picture is great. Just ordered one for my son, he is an Xbox saddo, but at least it will get him and his Xbox out of the lounge and into his bedroom.
