Hitachi 32in HD Ready LCD TV £271.89 @ Argos

Just got a deal at Argos. I was looking at a 26" ALBA LCD TV, but then wandered over to the display models and saw this Hitachi 32LD30U B 32 inch LCD TV. It's as light as a feather, great picture quality and HD Ready. Very pleased with it.

Plus, the icing on the cake was that it was a whopping £100 discounted. That made it only £10 or so dearer than the nasty ALBA 26" model.

Argos Catalogue number: 529/4529

You will also get a £10 voucher with this purchase.

I bought this tv and swiftly took it back. The main reason was you have to wait two and half hours for it to switch on or change channels. God it was annoying! Cold from me.

This is a fantastic TV, never had any issues with it so pleased, was a bargain!! Looks nice, sturdy and great picture and sound! Thrilled to bits with it :)

The £249 Alba model has a better spec than this ( this tv is an old model - so the contrast ratio is way below that of current models).

This model is not listed on the Hitachi website - the current equivelnt is much better specced . This is probably why its discounted

Actually, you would be surprised. As BOTH products are rebadged on behalf of Home Retail PLC - aka Argos/Homebase. Both Probably Vestel models, the ALBA being the newer model. Not saying the Hitatchi is bad, its a good price for a good telly, but these units will be pretty much identical inside.

i think the word is amazed if ANYONE would choose a alba over a hitachi as the op stated" is only 10 dearer than the nasty alba 26", cant disagree with that ,you go for the alba and i will go with the hitachi and the best of luck my friend

Thanks for the heads up I had no idea Vestel make >20% of the LCD in the EU and a larger segment of the set top boxes.

I was in the market to buy the model above at £331 32" 1080p from Comet. The reviews were pretty good though the same problem with changing of the channels on freeview was an issue.
After viewing the Hitachi against a 720p Samsung I opted to go for the Samsung as the Tv looked alot smarter and the panel shown a better quality finish.

Little disappointed with the Hitachi though for the price its not that bad.

I love hearing information like that - really useful thanks.

How do you know that kind of thing - if you don't mind me asking?

I remember a few years back on the QVC shopping channel a guy from a company called Orion when selling his tv's on the channel claimed virtually every UK household would have some audio or video product made by them but sold under another name and some big names at that so an awful lot of this rebadging goes on.

I would say though that a company like Hitachi wouldn't allow their name to be slapped on a poor quality product so even if you're right about Hitachi not actually making this tv it doesn't mean it's not any good.

Sadly you would be wrong, Hitachi have not actually made any TV's for some years, I am also convinced that they are made by Vestel in Turkey, like most of the cheaper " brands " of TV's, with a Hitachi label stuck on them.

As i have this tv i can promise you it's not a poor product and i doubt you will find a better value for money tv anywhere on the market. I'm absolutely delighted with mine and the picture from my virgin hd box and ps3 is brilliant. I'd recommend this tv to anyone.

just to put my 2p in there are only seven TV manufacturers in the world how many brand names can you count, when you get past seven which is easy then after that they are the same one TV can be the same inside just a different name on the front hope this helps

Yeah, I think a lot of that goes on. I think you just have to look at the quality of the picture and if you're happy with it then it doesn't really matter what name is slapped on the front.

Hehe, yea - because Hitachi is such a quality brand these days
Both are cheap crap made by someone else with just the end factory in the chain putting a different badge on, neither is worthy of any form of brand snobbery.
