some one needs to get of their high horse and get educated . Brand names don't mean anything go stand on tescos or pc world etc I'd put money on my plasma having a better picture than your tv or any sub 700 52" tv . This whole 720p / 1080 rubbish and oh mines made by so and so .. Most the panels made in same place . My dell monitors with Samsung panels are better quality than my mates brand new led Samsung ... Wow can't be true !

Total and utter Rubbish read the post on the bush 3d tv from the chap who repairs tvs for a living ! As for your Hitachi plasma having a fab picture that is in your eyes only and if indeed they were so good do you honestly think people would pay more for Panasonic etc when they could go Argos sale and by a tv like yours !
#13
If you are happy with your hitachi plasma that's all well and good our Samsung eh5000 40 inch led edge tv in lounge has gorgeous picture but took time to get picture settings correct

The earlier hitachi tv's where produced by Panasonic .... The new ones are argos generic crap but the older ones aren't.... There comparable with Sony tv's ...
#15
And depends on where the tv is going light etc and what your going to watch on it ...

Agreed - the midrange and now retired Hitachi 42PD7200 was one of the best plasmas out there in 2005.

This is BS. I would much rather watch good quality 720p than poor quality 1080p any day.

+1 my Hitachi 42PD5200 plasma is still in daily use at approx 10 years old and would still knock spots off many 720 or 1080 displays.
Having said that, most people wouldn't appreciate the difference though as noted the post is for a generic tv with Hitachi stamped on it.

Got one of these 2 yrs ago when it wass 399, still going strong and a good buy then, you wont go wrong at this price and if I hadn't bought a new lg recently I would happily buy another of these.
#20
Would the Panasonic plasma 42 inch with freeview hd at £299 PC world be ok for a well lit bedroom ? Thinking of buying it at this price
#21
I have the older version of this. Brought it nearly 3 years ago and still as good as day 1. I have a friend who sells and fixes tvs and he said Hitachi are really good and reliable but take a little bit longer to get up go date with the likes of Sony etc
#22
Get an LG better spec from Richer sounds at £289!

I bought this TV last week and I'm very happy with it. Great value and looks wonderful, I'd definitely recommend it :)
#24
Thanks for that at £269 what a bargain !

Turkish Vestel badged as a Hitachi
#26
ive looked at this for myself to buy with my argos card (pay it off interest free in 9 months), but there are led's of same size with better specs for only a bit more which consume half the electric power which for me is more important. also the bezel on this tv is ugly, still i might buy it seeing the price and availability.

Hitachi WAS a known good brand, not any more. It's a rebadged Vessel as noted already.

All Hitachis are now re badged crap AFAIK.They may work well and look good at the start, and they may well have some supposedly quality panels such as LG, and tuners such as Philips, but it's the rest of the electronics you need to worry about. They're always designed down to as cheap as possible, and will nuke themselves before they should.

It's the same for Sharp and Toshiba - two names that I know at least at the low end are rebadged Vestel - of course including the whole range of crap that the supermarkets sell - Technica, Celcus - and the stuff that Argos has been peddling for years under brand names that have long fallen - Wharfedale, Bush, Alba, Goodmans etc.

With the low end sets from the real quality manufacturers (the ones that aren't whoring their names onto rebadged crap) coming in at only slightly more £ than these sets, you should save your money in the long run by buying something decent. It has a whole load less chance of blowing up in 2-3 years.
