Where did you get this rubbish about it being the cheapest from?

http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/seagate-expansion-portable-hard-drive-500gb-03972887-pdt.html?srcid=369&xtor=AL-63

£39.99 from Dixons of all places, if Dixons have beat that price then I am 100% sure there is a tons more the same or cheaper.

And there are a massive amount of alternative ones for less then £49.99, you obviously did not search very far, and you obviously did not even search hotukdeals as there has been at least 10 the past couple of weeks.

Cold.

I agree with OP about the lack of deals on these.
Looks like a good price for this drive so heat added.

Looked at the Seagate from Dixons but cannot tell if it requires external power. Some reviews suggest it does but not sure. And John Lewis vs Dixons....

I am favoring the Hitachi one from John Lewis. I have great experience with them, they replaced electronic (gave me a new one) no questions asked even though they could have said that its over the 1 year mark and that they would send it to the manufacturer. I know this is a very common excuse that Dixon/Curry/PcWorld give. I had a lot of problem with Dixon with a minidisk player. They kept saying that I would have to contact Sony or buy extended warranty for them to repair or replace it.
So for the sake of £2.96 I will prefer John Lewis as dont want the hassle of contacting the manufacturer should anything go wrong.
