I have a friend who works at argos he said to me a while ago avoid hitachi and bush from argos like the plague, they apparently get returned more than any other product

Seems steep for a Vestel that is probably a customer return.

Got the point....thank you very much

I can't comment on the reliability of Vestel TV's. I just have a real issue with the way they mislead the public with these brand slaps.

What is the trick of identifying a Vestel from Hitachi?

What is the trick of identifying a Vestel from Hitachi?

There is not really a trick to it. Hitachi haven't made TV's for the European market for years. Any TV (or indeed any consumer electronic device) you see with a Hitachi logo over here won't be made by Hitachi themselves. Hitachi license their branding out to third parties such as Vestel.

Toshiba, Blaupunkt, Sharp, JVC.....they are all up to it. It's more complicated with some companies such as Toshiba and Sharp, as some of their TV's will be made by third parties and others will be manufactured by themselves.

I don't want to sound rude or anything, but is there any proof to support those words.

I got a hitachi 42inch lcd full hd from argos about 5 or 6 years ago or even longer which was a great price at that time. However after around 10 months it stopped switching on, swapped it in argos for the same but updated model, still use as my main tv and works great

Google Hitachi Vestel, you will find loads of information

You can also look at these for starters

http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2006-06-08/the-unknown-tv-giant

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestel and take a look at the Other brands using vestel chassis and platforms section.

http://www.homeretailgroup.com/media/150095/homeretai_group_fy13_results_01-05-13_transcript.pdf Refers to Hitachi, Bush and Alba as Argos brands.

"In terms of the price differential with Amazon, I have said a number of times
that the overlap between ourselves and Amazon is not as great as people
think it is. It is specific in consumer electronics and particularly branded
consumer electronics. Very often they have very sharp prices that are hard
for us to match. That is a fact. However, we have a very large proportion of
our sales in our own brand offer, which in TV for example is Alba, Bush and
Hitachi. They are not competitive against those products and do not have
anything like the volume that we manage to create. If you do want a very
low-price LCD TV or a very low-price DVD TV then you will find that best in
an Argos store local to you at a very sharp price. "

We have this tv, very happy with it.

Paid £250 at the argos clearance warehouse in Corby.

Only criticism would be the sound quality - we bought a sound bar to fix this.

The smart features we have used work well, will connect to my plex server, and I can push YouTube videos from my phone. No nowtv which would be nice.

Banjax fascinating info thanks. I just bought new Hitachi 42" from Argos at £229. As the article says its a great price but I guess because own brand.

Mine arrived today.... cracked LCD, Argos won't replace it. Will only refund. Looked mint too. Had to drive 30 miles to drop it off at parcel force depot. Looks exactly the same as the polaroid (remote is identical) less one HDMI port that the ASDA are selling at £429.
£399 for a brand new replacement from Argos in store, or £399 for the direct lit LED (non smart) LG..... :/

Got this tv about a month ago, and its amazing. Sound quality isnt the greatest, but for £350 who can complain.
