Well I am running 6 of the the 1TB Samsungs and think they are sweet drives. I have another dozen or so Samsungs ranging from 250GB to 500GB. I might be tempting fate but I think they are great drives.

I don't think HGST have ever fully recovered from producing the deathstar range (Google it if you are too young). I would certainly be reluctant to use them, not because of their past mistakes, but because in the last 5 years they have not really shown any sign of serious innovation. Their drives are generally slower, and draw more power than, the competition. Seagate have been making some good drives recently, but they don't get the pricing right, and I have been reading some serious complaints regarding the new 1.5TB drive. Might explain why you can pick them up for under £110.

I can't vote on this. It is cheap for a 1TB drive, but I certainly wouldn't buy one at £40.

Done my googling... Cheers bytemaster.

Having done so I'm a little wary of these drives - even though I always say it's largley down to luck of the draw with HDs. I think I'll carry on looking for a decent priced Samsung or WD!
