You guys really do live in the past don't you. I agree they had a terrible reputation but that was at least 5 years ago. Time to move on chaps.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I was building machines 15 years ago. These are the most reliable desktop drives money can buy. No CCTL/TLER problems so also perfect for RAID arrays. Forget buying the 3 year warranty, they come with a 3 year warranty from Hitachi.

Here's the Wikipedia article describing the failures http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitachi_Deskstar. A class action was raised about these drives in 2001 (nearly 10 years ago) and settled in 2005 (five years ago). The problems involved specific models which are not the same as those in this deal. A quick Google for recent (genuine) reports of Deskstar failures reveals 0 issues. So where's the verifiable facts (rather than hearsay) to back up that these drives are bad?
