Thought blu-ray players also playing dvds was a usual feature of players? Could do with a review of this machine but can't find any so far.

Be careful, I bought a Hitachi TV from Argos about 18 months ago and took it back after it was discovered to be shocking quality.

I searched the web and could not see any info about the model number of TV on any of Hitachi's worldwide websites, be it UK, Europe, US or Japan.

Reading a few forums it appears that Hitachi often sel their name off to cheaper brands and let it be used to make crap items appear like a big name item.

Is this another example?

I bought one for the bedroom and sent it back, as for this reason, it would not do a firmware updated.

I would pay £10 more and get the lg one off of amazon if you want a cheap good player.

Probably, I was hooking up a Hitachi telly for someone, noticed the remote control was identical to the early Matsui Freeview boxes with the Hitachi logo printed on instead.

One of these actually, sold on ebay as a Goodmans/Pacific remote as well

Basically the Hitachi stuff in Argos is generic rebranded gear like Wharfedale.

it can be.
sadly most Hitachi (audio visual not power tools, etc) are very cheap and poor and nothing like a product from a Japanese company.
I'm not sure but I've heared similar things that they "sell" or "let" their brand name to some retailers which then use it to sell cheap chineese and eastern european electronic devices to people.
I've bought a hitachi micro system from Currys and portable dvd player from argos in the past and theyve both been rubbish in quality and very poor is design. nothing like the good old Hitachi.

Panasonic player for less than £10 more here, no brainer in my humble opinion (_;)
