Be warned the photos from these Hitachi cameras come out very grainy. The flash on them is not powerful enough. It may be cheap but the pictures you may take may be once in a lifetime shots which you cannot recreate.

Agreed, Hitachi do not make cameras, these are rebadged cheapo's from Vivitar etc.

I bought two of these camera's before Christmas and they are faulty, both only take half a dozen or so pictures before the batteries go flat. Argos aren't interested and say there is nothing wrong with them.

I have contacted Hitachi Europe and they say that they do not import this camera into Europe, apparently they are imported directly from wherever by the retailer.

Hitachi said "Unfortunately, the above model number was not imported into Europe by Hitachi UK, it is a exclusive import model which was brought into this country by the retailer. Any requests for spares or assistance would have to be directed to your retailer as Hitachi UK have no details on this product".

Asking if it was a re-badged cheapo, they couldn't tell me. Fact is they couldn't tell me a single thing about this camera, and they are the manufacturer.

:?Good luck to anyone trying to get a bargin from Argos. In my experience all the really good deals get snapped up or were so limited that the staff grab them all before the general populas have a chance.
Ever the optomist I waste away my life filling out the order form, only to be told that the item is out of stock, time after time.
...is it just me or is this a familiar story?

I think that's very often the case, but sometimes you can pick up a good deal, I managed to pick up a sony cdx gt616u car stereo after christmas for about £60 which was an absolute bargain - still not seen anything similar for that money since then. I only found one of them in all the stores I looked at, but it was there. Mostly though they are gone as you say - it's good when you get something though:thumbsup:

As for this deal, sorry, but I don't rate it. In my experience digital cameras is one of the few things where the brand really does make a difference, and the cheapo ones just don't compete. There are now plenty of cameras from decent makes for about the same, or not much more money.
