Truly awful.

Spose at the price they would be ok for kids to use/abuse.

Some heat, at least it isn't a Vivitar and it has optical zoom

This is so awful, then again anything with Hitachi stamped on it is. Friend brought one for his kid, stopped working after 15 minutes. The second one lasted two days.

Sorry had to vote cold.

They sell the rights for use of the name for Argos to stamp on £5 cameras.

Got to agree with the negativ comments I'm afraid. They bank on people expecting th Hitachi name to offer some kind of quality, put them in the catalogue at vastly inflated prices and then half th price to say it's a bargain. Rather naughty I think as they really don't expect to sell any at full price.

Not going to vote cold, as it may be ok for a kids camera, although I'd personally look for a canon/fuji refurb for the same or a little more money.

I thought Hitachi was a middle of the road name, producing a middle of the road product. At the price, that would make this camera a nice purchase with the optical zoom. I still think it is a better purchase than those landfill jobs that Vivitar produce for the same money though, even if it ain't great quality.

Hitachi is a middle of the road brand, unfortunately they don't make these cameras, their name is simply put onto them by Argos, they're made by somebody as bad as Vivitar I imagine.

Like I said, if it were my cash I'd go on the Canon Outlet on Ebay and pick up an old Powershot, thy've had some A550's going for about £40 (+£5.99 p&p) recently, and although a refurb they do come with 12 months warranty and the difference between this Hitachi and a Canon will be staggering!

Hitachi do not make any goods, they just stamp the name on finished products. I found this out when working in electrical retail. trying to get answers from them is impossible as all reps ever say is "Well we don't actually make them we get them made for us. I might be able to get an answer but i would have to look at what supplier we get that model from!"

Really, well you live and learn!

Doesn't surprise me though.

EDIT: Surely they make their own Hard drives though don't they? Maybe it's just consumer electronics that they don't make.
