I believe PC World have the same at the same price too...

For those who may have one, does the radio have "normal" screws to take it apart or are they the "security" type or even something else? (long story but I need an largish FM radio with pre-sets that I can take apart)

Why Cold ?

Reasonably good manufacturer, can't find it cheaper elsewhere. have reserved one a Fulham (London). Voted Hot !!

Listening to mine now (thanks OP).

A couple of points to note.

It's not the most sensitive receiver, so may not work well in low signal areas. It's also a fairly basic set - the software is called EZdab - and doesn't seem to have an set-up or options menu apart from scanning and switching inputs.

It lights up a nice blue when you hit the controls but soon dims a lot, so it becomes hard to read in a lit room. It would be good if this could be disabled or adjusted.

Volume control is analogue rotary and is also the on/off switch when turned all the way down.

It has a line-in for MP3 players and a headphone socket but the sound quality isn't great. Quite tinny but fine for plugging into something else through the headphone socket and for 15 quid, you can't complain.

Cheers,

Martin.

how do i get it for 14.97

can't get it at £15

The feature list includes "* Snooze with alarm".

However a user manual which I found online for this model makes no mention of "alarm" or "snooze".

Could someone who has purchased the radio please confirm whether or not these facilities exist?

price has gone up to £20

I bought one of these about 6 months ago @ £29.99 --- it's pretty cheap looking, but sounds ok.

Only trouble is the aerial came off after about 5 times of pulling it up - a common fault it appears, as the display model in the shop also had the aerial off!

Also, I'd got it to use on rechargeable batteries - it seemed to work ok on the mains, but whenever I inserted the batteries the radio would lock up and it was an endless combination of plugging in / unplugging, inserting/removing batteries --- and eventually it would come back on,. Until the next time you needed to replace the batteries then it was the same rigmarole.

In the end I took it back and got a refund and got a Pure One Elite from Argos - they were selling the white one off at £39, an absolute bargain - and that works faultlessly.

At £14.99 this Hitachi is probably ok - if you’re going to run it off the mains and only pull the aerial up once --- then don't touch it again, or it'll fall to pieces because the build quality is cheap and flimsy. At £20 don't bother, put the £20 towards something decent - you will be disappointed/frustrated, even though it's cheap.

Reasonably good manufacturer --- maybe, but it doesn't detract from the fact this is an awful product that somehow slipped through :) It's about the quality you'd expect from Binatone :p

You hit the nail on the head their it has not been manufactured by Hitachi as DSGi use the Hitachi brand name under lisence so it is a cheap chinese brand rebadged.

Just picked mine up. It scanned for channels and found them Ok though I think I'm in quite a strong signal area. As far as I can tell it dosnt' have a snooze alarm like it says in the description. If it does I cant find it anywhere so can someone tell me where it is? Not too important for me so I'll let it pass though.
