But its a Bush though.

I certainly wouldnt go near Bush or any other budget brand when buying a telly. Cant comment on Hitachi though coz ive never used them, but surely they must be better quality than the Bush, Grundig, Onn, Acoustic Solutions, etc etc.

Dont really think it matters, majority of them will be made by the same person anyways with different labels attached.

Like bread, my dad used to work for Sunblest who would pack the same bread into Farmfoods labels as they would into Sunblest etc.

Sorry m8 added to the post to back myself up. Each to their own i suppose, but i wouldnt touch them - had a Bush many many years back and only lasted me for 6 months past the year warranty. Never again !

And I had an Alba portable tv when I was younger and I'll tell ya it lasted longer than the Sony we had in the living room.

Nah I seen, as I said I dont think it matters, altho Tv's are coming down in price now so its getting cheaper to buy the better brands.

But I have 3 young kids so the cheaper the better with somethings.

LOL i know what your saying. Down to personal preference i suppose, and also cashflow. Just personal experience with Bush has left me a little sceptical.

Is Hitachi the same company as it used to be years ago? They made quality electronics. I think I heard that it was a budget manufacturer actually using the name, could have just been a rumour though.

I was going to say pound for pound the UMC looks by far the best deal....... until i read the horrible reviews.

This is my point though. You read reviews on the budget tvs and they all say they fail quite early on into the units life. Isnt it worth paying that little extra for a quality name brand that by all means should last for years. Ive got 2 Sonys, a Panny and a Toshiba in my house and they have all been trouble free for years now (touch wood). All i ever hear is of brands like Acoustic Solutions failing not long out of warranty. I know when it comes to consumer electronics nothing is ever guaranteed but dont the big manufacturers make them that bit more quality ? Id sooner pay £50-£100 more for those extra years than go cheap and have to replace every 2-3.

22" tv's at £200 are definately overpriced.

wouldnt pay more than £150 esp as 22" monitors are occasionally sub £100

This is unfair comparison. The import duty on a plasma or LCD screen is 14% if you can use it to watch TV, but duty free if it only takes a computer signal. So out of a £200 LCD TV about £25 is import duty already. And you cannot get a Japanese branded PC monitor anywhere near £100 anyway!

Yes, you usually pay for what you get in the television market,. However if Sony, Samsung and the like don't make a 22' LCD with built in DVD what option do you have but to but the cheaper brand. I got a 19" Acoustic solution before christmas, the picture quality and usability was fine but unfortunately it developed a line of dead pixels. Took this back to Argos and got a gift card as refund. Looking at bigger screens now and seem to be stuck for options at Argos. There was someone in the queue taking back a Wharfedale! Anyone any suggestions on a 22' built in LCD DVD unit? Please tell me Sony do one!
