Hot, I got the email earlier this week with this deal. Been pondering it since.

Not the cheapest. Amazon and ebay is £59.99 but if you want Hitachi, it's a good price.

Just go to amazon or ebay and put in "2.5" portable 500gb hard drive" and they come up at top.

Tescos have one for a bit less, but not sure if shock proof

This is a pretty good price for a water- and shock-resistant 500GB drive IMO. Nice.

[COLOR="Red"]Please do check the review s from amazon before order.
It seems that this model has a design flaw and breaks really easily. What a pity.

I used to own an Archos AV420 back in the days, this had a Hitachi 20GB 1.8" HDD IDE (not ZIF) as standard, supposedly shock-proof (said so on Archos blurb, and on Hitachi blurb, and on the actual HDD itself). Had to change the HDD 3 times within 2 years of ownership, terminal head crash each time (and no, it was not ever dropped or 'shocked').

So much so that when I eventually upgraded the AV420, I opted for the 4GB solid state-based AV605, instead of the larger-capacity HDD models.

Now, I know things must have moved on a bit technically in the last 4 years or so, but still... I wouldn't.

I've got the simple touch version which when I ordered thought was this rugged shock model. Mine has taken a bit of beating chucked in a bag. This as per reviews on amazon has had problems related to the attached USB cable. I would rather go for the transcend tough portable HDD which is used by the US military.
