is this the ipod harddrive ie can be used a replacement
#2
It not an Ipod as they use toshiba ones but yes if can be used to upgrade your Ipod.

The pics show this with a sata interface but the description states "ata-5". What is "ata-5"? I need a new hdd for my daughters gen3 ipod and this would be ideal if it fitted.

Forgive me, I know I'm known for being one of the forum techies generally but I know very little about Ipods, could I use this on an old G4 ?

The hard drive in mine is knackered, it comes up with a sad face or something whenever I try to switch it on, it's one of the old big white ones with a monochrome screen.

Hitachi drives are the worst I have ever used.

ATA 5 (up to 6) is the old PATA standard (what most people call IDE).

In this case the physical interface is unique the 1.8" disks and is the little ribbon lead. Nothing like a laptop or desktop interface.

Depends, I have found the 1.8" disks to be very decent the few times I have used them in ARM dev boards. Also considering one of these to double the space on my Zune :-D. Just need to check it's going to work 1st ;-).

Have you tried giving it a few soft but definate taps, base end, on a softish surface? Sometimes the HDD connection gets a little loose on those and causes the smiley of death ;-)

I've had it open before to replace the battery (which was severely ********ed) and I saw that the hdd connected with what looked like a stripped IDE cable so I could have another go at opening it over the weekend and checking the hdd connection, I think the ipod is just knackered in general though to be honest.
